High School Spotlight: Center Grove Trojans

In this series, we will be a look at some quick hitters, the top player, potential breakout player, other roster roster members and notable games of the upcoming season. For today's spotlight, we take a look at the Center Grove Trojans.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Quick Hitters</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Finished 22-3 last season</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Lost to Bloomington North in Sectionals</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Zach Hahn returns for 10th year as head coach. 136-88 record overall.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Player: [player_tooltip player_id='1158238' first='Joey' last='Schmitz']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Schmitz is one of the top lead guards in the in-state 2024 class and will carry a lot of weight for the Trojans this season. He is an incredibly smart, skilled point guard that can shoot it at a high level and also create for his teammates. Schmitz is a tough guard that showed an ability to play both on and off the ball. While he can shoot it from the outside, think he is at his best scoring 15ft and in with a floater and short baseline jumper. He is the glue of this team. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Breakout Player: [player_tooltip player_id='1455666' first='Peyton' last='Byrd']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In my opinion, Byrd is one of the more interesting prospects in the in-state 2024 class. At 6-foot-6, Byrd is a long and lanky forward that has some intriguing parts to his game. He is pretty smooth from the wing but also is versatile enough to play the post both on the offense and defense. Finishes well around the basket also. The big question mark for me will be how aggressive he will be against bigger post players this season. If all this clicks, you could see him really breakout this season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Other Important Roster Members</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>[player_tooltip player_id='1547488' first='Will' last='Spellman'] - Spellman is another player that will be one of the top breakout candidates. He missed the whole summer with a shoulder injury so there are some questions with his health but if he comes in healthy he will be a major advantage for the Trojans. Skilled forward that can initiate offense from the top of the key. Good passer, can shoot it a bit, and comfortable in handoff/get action.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>[player_tooltip player_id='1547490' first='Jalen' last='Bundy'] - Bundy is a legit combo guard abilities and just has an overall smoothness to his game. He is not the tallest or quickest player on the floor, but does a great job of creating on the dribble. He is going to be a true scorer for the Trojans this season. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>[player_tooltip player_id='1578384' first='Dylan' last='Meador'] - As a senior, Meador is now going to see a major increase in his role this upcoming season. He is a skilled playmaker that consistently scored off of the dribble and created open shots for his teammates as well.
