It’s never too early to start thinking about high school ball, and the fall is the perfect time to take into account our grassroots observations from the summer and determine who some of the best players in each conference are going to be. We now head to the Triad area to cover the first of two 4A conferences in the area, the Central Piedmont conference. With multiple impressive teams like Mount Tabor and West Forsyth ready to roll this season, we preview our preseason picks for the conference’s all-conference team below.
Last Season Stats – N/A
Peterkin is a name much adored by scouts and others across the basketball world for good reason. He’s incredibly bouncy and a constant threat to attack the rim, whether by himself on the drive or with teammates finding him off the ball. He also knocks down pull-ups off the bounce, especially in the mid-range. He’s improving his perimeter jumper but continues to be a real threat inside the arc. A two-sport athlete, he should have a big year both on the gridiron and the hardwood.
Last Season (Walkertown) – 15.4 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 62 3PM
Baker is a transfer in from Walkertown that will immediately help East Forsyth win more games. A UNC football commit, Baker still brings impressive skills to the hardwood that allowed him to average over 15 points per game last year. He’s a deadeye shooter that really loves getting to his spots, whether off the catch or the bounce, and also rebounds quite well for his position. Keep looking for him to make an impact on the basketball court this winter.
Last Season Stats – 17.0 PPG, 8.3 APG, 6.5 RPG
Brim is a heady point guard that really knows how to create for himself and has the ability to guard his yard on the defensive end. He’s shown an ability to get to his mid-range and perimeter jumper off the dribble, showing patience and the ability to get to his spots whether the defense likes it or not. Defensive pest who enjoys getting matched up on to skilled guards, and has ample length and athleticism to do the job well. In line for an even bigger year as his groups lead man.
Last Season Stats – 14.7 PPG, 13.5 RPG, 2.7 BPG
Powers is a hybrid forward that does a bit of everything and is a walking double double every night in this conference. Starting with his frame, he’s a burly 6’5 that allows him to physically attack defenders in the post and around the basket. This means he hits the glass on both ends with force, providing second chances for his team or limiting opponents to one possession. He can step out and shoot the three ball with regularity as well, making him a multifaceted threat.
Highlights
Last Season Stats – 9.1 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.7 BPG
Jackson is an interior big that plays hard as all get out on the court every time he’s in the game. His physicality is matched by almost no one else, as he goes in and tries to win every loose ball, every rebound, and stop you from scoring however he can. His offensive game is consistently improving to where he can score with his back to the basket more often as well as play as a roll man in ball screens. Rebounding threat and improving as a rim protector even without a ton of vertical pop in his game. Should be a LM D1 target or a high academic D3 star.
