These guys made the most of their time on the floor this summer and continued to impress us with their steady play and growth. Expect each of these players to play key roles for their teams in the upcoming hoop season.
Mwale’s going to be a big add for Bellevue this winter as a guy who works hard around the paint, establishing position, working the glass, defending the rim, and scoring the ball as a pretty diverse frontcourt player. He’s just 6-foot-5 which won’t blow you away as a paint player, but Mwale’s got good leaping ability, has a long reach and constantly outworks opponents inside. He’s a guy you can plug downlow, stick at the high post, or keep moving and count on to find space. He’s also a guy who has the athleticism and IQ to develop into more of a wing as time goes on.
This kid could be a breakout player in the 4A this season. He’s a smart player who will step into a big role as point guard of the Curtis Vikings. There are a number of guys who can score and shoot on the team, Devin Whitten Devin Whitten 6’2″ | SG Curtis | 2024 State WA , Keaundre Morris Keaundre Morris 6’2″ | SG Curtis | 2027 State WA , and Brandon Logan, who give their new point guard plenty of options to pass to. Williams shows an ability to play at his own pace, remain calm in the face of pressure and make sure the ball goes where it needs to in order for the offensive schemes to be most effective. He’s also a kid who can find ways to get the ball through the hoop on his own with some nifty moves to duck inside and is a capable finisher at the rim from either side.
The shifty guard out of North Thurston is a fun player to watch. He brings the energy whenever he steps on the floor and has started to show some of that end-to-end speed that can spark a team by making plays in transition and spurring the rest of the team to run with him. Sheeran has also shown some range from three and continues to develop his offensive game to be a more well-rounded threat. He’s got the wiggle to get to the middle and if he keeps up his shooting from outside, he could be a multi-dimensional spark plug for the Rams who are looking to finally grab the SSC title this season.
Niles is a long kid whose already pretty tall at 6-foot-7, but his reach makes him feel closer to 6-foot-9. He still has some rawness to his game but he has shown potential to be a big who can consistently alter shots and swallow up a lot of ground defensively near the rim. He’s also a pretty solid rebounder, and while the offensive package is still pretty basic, he’s a guy who could be strong enough on the defensive end to warrant a look.
Bhalod is a kid who can play the wings with his handle and ability to shoot, but it seems like he quite often finds himself working closer to the paint and sizing up defenders with his back to the hoop. I haven’t seen much from him in terms of long-rang shooting but he has a good-looking stroke and should be able to stretch the floor. He was a consistent rebounder last season and should be given a pretty big opportunity to flourish at Inglemoor this coming season.
The lanky wing has a good chance to be a solid 3 & D player. He’s got the size at 6-foot-4 and good enough quickness to be a reliable defender who can stay in front on the perimeter and add some shot-blocking in the paint. Offensively, he’s shown some ability to space the floor, particularly from the corner, but he’s a decent athlete too who can get some things going to the hoop. Although at this point, he lacks the tight handle to create looks downhill without relying on a quick first step.
