A natural shooter and scorer, Koester is one of the most talented scoring wings in NW Ohio. After a strong spring with the Ohio Buckets 16 U group that included multiple big time shooting performances in big spots. After scoring 16 PPG as a Sophomore, he’s been hitting 20+ points with Toledo Chrisitan often in the month of June. Toledo Chrisitan is also playing eight-man football this season, look for Koester to make plays on the gridiron this fall as well.
Another multi-sport athlete, Pastor is a small-town sleeper from Saint Clairsville who got onto the statewide radar playing with Nova’s 16 U UA-Rise group. Able to knock down shots from the perimeter and compete athletically on a shoe circuit squad, Pastor checks a lot of boxes off the eye test. Most comfortable finishing off two feet in transition, Pastor uses his explosiveness to finish at the rim. Expect small college programs to really take notice of Pastor this upcoming spring as he can bring a variety of skills to the small college level.
Highlights
The Prep Hoops Circuit is a great way to get onto our radar and Mac Basketball had strong showings in both the 16 U and 17 U age groups this year. Hughes was one of their most productive players on the 16 U group and even occasionally filled in with the 17 U squad when they were shorthanded. One reason why he was able to fit in with the older group is his strong frame and high IQ on the defensive end of the court. The lefty wing guard also has a sweet stroke from the outside and can make the right read when attacking the basket. A name to watch in northeast Ohio this winter.
Hilliard Bradley is projected to be one of the top teams in central Ohio this winter and their disciplined pack line defense and perimeter shooting has been a staple of their program. Few players fit that system better than Sever, who can get hot from the outside and really competes on the defensive end of the court. Cade Norris Cade Norris 6’3″ | PG Hilliard Bradley | 2024 State OH and Ben Mirgon Ben Mirgon 6’1″ | PG Hilliard Bradley | 2027 State OH will have the ball in their hands a majority of the time for the Jags but Sever and Jeb Bischoff Jeb Bischoff 6’0″ | SG Hilliard Bradley | 2024 State OH ‘s ability to space the floor for them is crucial to their offensive success. I expect small college programs to start to take notice of Sever this winter as they’ll be playing in some big time contests this winter.
A teammate with Sever on a Midwest Basketball Club squad that had a lot of success this spring and summer, Piatt-Brown is in a similar spot as he’ll be relied upon to make shots on one of the most talented teams in central Ohio. With Jesse Burris Jesse Burris 6’4″ | SF Delaware Hayes | 2024 State #297 Nation OH getting a lot of defensive attention, it opens up space for shooters like Piatt-Brown to get hot from the outside and I expect some games where he shoots the Pacers to victory. Continuing to develop physically and being able to attack a closeout will be the next steps to his game, but his size and shooting ability already makes him a small college target.
Another grassroots teammate of a player mentioned in this article, Bowen-Pride was a teammate with Hughes on Mac Basketball ‘s 16 U group. A talented wing shot maker from the perimeter who had a strong season for Oberlin as a Sophomore. His marquee weekend on the grassroots circuit came at the Grit Region finals where he was named to our all tournament team for the weekend. Another area where he impacts the game is by blocking shots, Bowen-Pride had a couple games with multiple blocks from the wing position.
