Continue ReadingWe are currently in the process of updating our class rankings in the state of VA, so I thought it would be a fun time to look at who I would rank as the top 25 players regardless of class in the state. It’s a tough task as it involves looking at projections of younger players who still have a lot of growing and maturing to do versus older players who are more college ready now. However, it’s a fun way to look at and compare some of the top players across the state and their projections moving forward.
Obviously this is not perfect and a lot of things will change over the next few years, so let the debating begin!
* Side Note: We do our rankings as a team, while these are my personal opinions. Not everything will align with our last rankings or our future rankings moving forward.
16) Ben Hammond Ben Hammond 5'10" | PG Paul VI | 2024 State #143 Nation VA | 5’8” PG | Paul VI 2024
Hammond was the floor general for the PVI team that was one of the best in the country last year and led them to a spot in the Geico National Championship, and he’s part of a long line of super talented prospects on this team. The Rhode Island commit is as fast as they come and is dynamic with the ball in his hands, he’s excellent in pick-and-rolls where he can score it and put pressure on the defense and he is a very good on ball defender as well. He’s part of a big group of DMV players that are headed to Rhode Island, and he’ll have a chance to play early for them next year.
15) Anthony Brown Anthony Brown 6'1" | PG Paul VI | 2026 State VA | 6’0” PG | Paul VI 2026
Brown may be younger and doesn’t get all the time that some of the older players for PVI get, but this summer he showed his big time talent and already holds a slew of high major and mid major offers. At 6’0” he’s a stocky and strong guard who plays with great pace and has a very high IQ as a playmaker, and he is a consummate floor general who can run the show and create off the bounce. He scores it efficiently from multiple levels and he sets the tone on both ends of the floor too.
14) Adlan Elamin Adlan Elamin 6'8" | SF Paul VI | 2025 State #266 Nation VA | 6’7” WF | Paul VI 2025
Elamin transferred to PVI this summer from Bishop O’Connell where he was a role player, and this summer he blew up picking up a handful of offers and showing tremendous upside moving forward. The 6’7” wing looks the part and fits the mold with his length and athleticism, and he is a very talented shooter who has effortless range and is consistent from deep. He can put it on the deck and create his own shot, he has big time upside defensively and he’s an athletic finisher at the rim too.
13) Garrett Sundra Garrett Sundra 6'11" | C Paul VI | 2024 State #148 Nation VA | 6’10” PF | Paul VI 2024
Sundra has developed nicely over the past few years and is perhaps one of the best glue guys you’ll find in the country, which has made him very highly touted and he committed to Notre Dame earlier in the summer. Sundra is able and willing to do the dirty work as a defender and rebounder, and he picks his spots and can score it in different ways as well. He’s an athletic finisher in transition and on lobs, he can step out and knock down shots from deep and he uses his length defensively to disrupt shots and get deflections too.
12) Kareem Stagg Kareem Stagg 6'8" | PF IMG | 2025 State #399 Nation FL | 6’8” C | Oscar Smith 2025
Stagg saw his recruitment take off this summer playing with Boo Williams on the EYBL Circuit, and he’s still young for his grade as he turned 16 this year and still continues to improve every time we see him. The 6’8” big man is an elite level athlete who dominates the paint defensively as a shot blocker and a rebounder, while also being able to move off the ball to catch and finish above the rim with authority. He’s developing offensively with his ability to make shots in the midrange and even step out beyond the arc, and he is becoming more and more productive with time.
11) Chance Mallory Chance Mallory 5'10" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2025 State #73 Nation VA | 5’8” PG | STAB 2025
Mallory blew up this summer as people started to overlook his height and instead focus on his skillset and production he showed with Team Thrill and STAB this year. He’s one of the most skilled players you’ll come across as he’s a talented ball handler and playmaker, he scores it efficiently and effortlessly well beyond the NBA line and he somehow finds ways to rebound and make plays defensively despite his size. He scores it in bunches and has tremendous confidence in his ability to play, and he’s a tough competitor who brings it every day and gets the best of the best on a regular basis.
