The three-day event featured matchups between some of the top programs from the Adidas 3SSB and Under Armour Association circuits. Below is a breakdown of the top guard performers from Friday’s action.
Jasen Lopez, SOH Elite
Lopez was toughness personified and the fact that he played with that much poise as just a rising sophomore was an intriguing piece to his puzzle. The 6-foot guard played with great pace in the open and half-court settings, used his speed and ability to play with a low center of gravity to get into the lane, draw defenders and spray the ball out to shooters.
John Furphy, NBA Academy – Global Select
Furphy’s feel for the game both as an on-ball creator and scorer screamed international prospect. The Tasmanian-based 6-foot-7 guard/wing played with elite pace, change of speed and direction and an overall high basketball IQ when the ball was in his hands.

The Boise State-commit came out of the opening tip confident in his scoring and shooting ability and it resulted in a much-needed offensive boost for the Utah Prospects. Bowie is a combo guard type prospect because of his ability to score at all three levels of the floor while also possessing the ball skills, basketball IQ and poise to operate as the primary ball handler. Bowie hit a handful of mid-range and three-point jump shots but also got to the rim and played off two feet in the painted area.
Justus Haseley, Canada Elite
The quick and crafty point guard was proved to be a guy difficult to keep in front as his ability to change speeds and direction while not losing speed or balance allowed him to easily get by his primary defender. When he got into the paint – which happened a lot – he was able to finish with the floater or by contorting his body for acrobatic finishes around rim protectors.

Toews had his crafty playmaking ability on full display. The 6-foot-1 point guard has great open court speed but also plays under control and with his eyes up the floor looking to advance the ball in transition. Toews was always looking to get two feet in the lane, played off the jump stop and kicked the ball to open shooters. He was no slouch in creating shots for himself, either, as his jumper off the dribble was balanced and consistent.

Edgecombe has all the tools to be an impact two-guard at the next level. His jump shooting mechanics are tight, he gets great lift off the ground and he doesn’t need to dominate the ball to be effective. The 6-foot-5 rising senior can play without the ball due to his ability to come off of screens and create space from defenders. Edgecombe also has the ball skills and feel off the bounce to create for himself and teammates in isolation.
