There was some very high quality basketball being played by athletes from Michigan. Let’s look at some of the players that were grassroots weekend warriors.
Hatchett was lights out with the Storm National 17u squad. He was at times unstoppable offensively, notching 2 30 plus point games at the GRBA National Championship. It felt like Hatchett could create at any time off the bounce and his pull up jumper was on point.
This was a fitting ending to the grassroots season for Bentley. His Hopson Elite team won a championship at Nothin’ But Net. Bentley was in typical form, hitting all corners of the stat sheet and playing an incredibly efficient brand of basketball. He continued to prove that he has one of the highest basketball IQ’s in the state.
Riebel probably hasn’t gotten the press that he deserves this grassroots season. The kid can flat out play basketball. Riebel was a very consistent scorer with a high total of 18 over the weekend. He showed off his jumper in that game, going 6-7 from behind the arc.
Reviews were strong for Demlow coming out of the GRBA National Championships. He was strong with the ball in his hands and made good decisions when he had. Demlow played a we not me brand of ball, but also showed that he could score when the opportunity was there. This performance with REAL 2025 is a great way for Demlow ro roll into showcase season.
Highlights
Morales has really stepped his game up this month with Strictly Skills. I think his overall strength is underestimated. It allows him to play off contact and keep a strong low base with the ball. Morales really showed his ability to create, finish at the rim and score the ball.
Thank you Derrick King Jr. Derrick King Jr. 6’0″ | PG Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills | 2024 State MI for making me look smart. I’ve been saying for a couple years now that this young man can compete with the best lead guards in the state. Well, he had that look at the GRBA championships over the weekend. King Jr. is terrific as a primary ball handler and has the ability to be a dynamic scorer. He showed this weekend that he can really play well with a talented post player.
Braun sent a message this weekend and put scouts and coaches on notice as we head to showcase season. Man do I hop he’s in the PH Top 250, because he could be a story coming out of it. Braun is a good old fashioned powerhouse with a nose for the ball off the rim.
