Lorensen had a great weekend with the Tigers, showcasing that he’ll be a major impact player this winter as a sophomore. A lefty with a pure stroke off the catch, he buried five 3-pointers in their win over Pella on Saturday morning, en route to a team-high 17 points. He has a quick release off the catch and does a great job utilizing off-ball screens and constantly moving without the ball, finding open spaces in the defense. He showed some ability to create looks for himself and his teammates as well off the dribble.
2026 SF Jack McGuire Jack McGuire 6'5" | SF Pella | 2026 State IA (Pella)
Another skilled sophomore who showcased his talents on Saturday morning was McGuire, a 6-3 wing with a wingspan that would probably measure in around 6-6/6-7. He uses that length effectively on the defensive end, getting into passing lanes and contesting shots, as well as to compete on the glass on both ends of the floor. He showed the ability to create looks off the bounce, getting to the rim for finishes on multiple occasions as well as finding open teammates on cuts or as wing shooters. He stuffed the stat sheet in their loss to ADM, finishing with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and a few steals.
2026 SG Zander Murray Zander Murray 6'0" | SG Xavier | 2026 State IA (Xavier)
Murray is a knockdown shooter with a quick release off the catch and a pure, repeatable stroke. He does a great job running to the corner on the break and getting open looks for corner 3 opportunities, and he has his feet squared and ready to shoot immediately. He showed some real potential as an on-ball defender in their loss to Ankeny, using his combination of length and quick feet to hold his own against some quality scoring threats.
2024 SF Cash Schoolen Cash Schoolen 6'3" | SG Ankeny | 2024 State IA (Ankeny)
An athletic 6-3 wing, Schoolen took over down the stretch in Ankeny’s win over Xavier, helping the Hawks put the game away on both ends of the floor. He uses his long strides and physicality to absorb contact and get to the rim for finishes. He showcased good court vision and passing instincts, finding open teammates on cuts for easy buckets, and he’s a good, versatile team defender who can defend multiple positions and control the game on that end of the floor. A do-it-all wing who is a great complimentary piece for an Ankeny team that should be pretty good this winter.
2024 PG Tysen Devries Tysen Devries 5'9" | PG Pella Christian | 2024 State IA (Pella Christian)
We pretty much know what to expect when DeVries is taking the court, but that doesn’t make it any less fun to watch anytime we can to see him. He’s exceptional at creating opportunities for his teammates, putting constant pressure on opposing teams with his blend of speed, vision, and toughness. Despite being the smallest player on the floor most of the time, he’s going to stick his nose in on the glass, battle on defense, and relentlessly attack the bucket and end up on the floor somehow, someway. He’s great at keeping his dribble in dangerous situations, tremendously fast with the ball in his hands, and has outstanding court vision. He had 11 points and 7 assists in the Eagles’ blowout win over Solon on Saturday morning.
2024 SG Hudson Wilmes Hudson Wilmes 6'0" | SG Winterset | 2024 State IA (Winterset)
The twin brother of fellow weekend standout Hayden, Hudson is also a gifted shooter with a quick release off the catch and unlimited range. He has great instincts on the defensive end and is a menace in the Huskies’ zone, coming away with multiple steals by jumping passing lanes or showing his quick hands. He’s a capable ball-handler and decision-maker who probably does a little bit more off the bounce than his twin brother does, making them a perfect complement to each other. He had 16 points in their win over Indianola.
