With all the good prospects from around California, our focus was on NorCal players. The live viewing period brought out college coaches from all divisions. Here are our Saturday standouts from the games we watched.
In the early game Perteete came out aggressive. He continues to make his presence felt on the court with consistent play. He works hard on both ends battling for rebounds, defending in the paint, and taking it up strong in traffic. His guard handles allows him to push, pass, and use his body along with toughness to finish tough drives for points, and hit mid-range jumpers. He can make a 3.
Wilburn standing 6’7 showed why he’s a target for DI coaches. He shows an all around game on the offensive side of the ball. His size and ball handling was notable in transition, and in the half-court. He can hit the corner 3ptr. He had good passing along the perimeter when he wasn’t knocking down mid-range and paint jumpers.
In addition to being one of NorCal’s top defenders, he may jump into what they call a 3 level scorer at this level consistency will be key. At 6’3 he’s tough on the inside finishing strong and around the basket, driving in or rebounding taking it up strong. As long as he’s got his legs under him, feet right, his form is good he’ll knock down 3’s.
Highlights
It looks like Aisien is ready for a big Summer. He’s long, looking stronger and moving better on the court. We’re seeing him play on the perimeter handling, passing and looking to use his dribble to get closer for short pull-up jumpers off the dribble, he made a couple of 3’s. He runs and jumps well to get lobs, and finish with transition dunks. He has good vertical.
Highlights
He’s standing 6’5 and doing most of the dirty work inside. He’s strong and tough battling bigs defending and rebounding. His improved foot work, and physical play allows him to get his points in the paint. He’s an improving ball handler, a good passer, he has a mid-range jumper. He’s a good court runner, who works hard end to end.
He fits well with his new team in their uptempo style. He’s a tough minded guard with speed to push, handle, and pass it up. He can settle a team in the half-court, he has court vision and makes good decisions with the ball. He can handle contact on the drive and he’s a knockdown 3pt shooter in transition or setting up along the perimeter.
Robinson is playing good basketball this spring, it’s carried over to his high school team. He’s playing with confidence. We think he’s always been good on the defensive side and rebounding. Offensively he’s shown the most improvement. Improved handles and strength going to the basket, knocking down his 3ptrs.
Neal is a solid contributor on this team. He has the size and length to defend hard on the perimeter, and hold his own inside, he’ll battle for rebounds, score inside. He hit 2-3’s in the corner, and a key bucket down the stretch. He goes hard on the baseline drive into the paint.
Thompson is considered to be one of NorCal’s top prospects. He’s been tested at the highest levels of high school, and grassroots basketball. He’s a versatile player that contributes on both ends not just scoring, though he can get a bucket. He’s 6’6 with handles and movement. He creates for himself and others with quality passing. He’ll hit 3’s, knock down mid-range jumpers, and drive it inside for scores. He rebounds and defends at a good level.
Butler is NorCal’s new number one in the 2024 class. He’s earned it with his high level consistent play against quality competition. He’s a play making guard who can control the flow of the game with the ball in his hands. He makes good decisions, has vision and passing, and works to involve others. He’s a shot maker, he made 8-3ptrs in the game we watched.
Don’t forget about Keefe, he too had an outstanding performance on Saturday night. He’s showing improvements with his slashing, and cutting style to the basket without the ball, and his more aggressive attempt to attack on drives to the basket. At 6’5 he’s good in transition, dribbling, passing and running to finish. He understands how to play defense, and he’s a 3pt threat in the corners, and can hit the free throw jumper.
Banks is probably underrated at a defender, he has the tools to be a disruptor if he locks in on that side of the ball. He has good lateral movement with quick hands and feet to cause turnovers, get steals that turn into bucket, he’s good up top. He has the ball more to use his dribble, and quickness to attack the paint, he’ll drop a corner 3.
