We were back in Chesterfield again for the second day of Show Me Showdown. It was a fun day of hoops with competitive games and big performances. Time to examine what we saw in Show Me Showdown: Scotty B's Saturday Notebook!

DTM 17U Shows Out to Start Morning Opener

The day began with a victory for DTM 17U 79-49 over Capital City Teamwork. We were impressed with these guys a week ago and it continued in the STL. Thornwood 2024 power forward Kaden Faber is primed to make a big debut in our rankings update in a few weeks. The mobile and athletic power forward has size, length, strength, and athleticism. Bouncy around the rim and has skill to step out shooting from distance as he had 24 points. At the point Westinghouse lead guard [player_tooltip player_id='1373448' first='Askia' last='Bullie'] ran the show with his tight handles, slick passing, and made several threes. Westinghouse wing Treyvon Ali had another strong performance recording 12 points knocking down jumpers from two and three for 12 points.

Capital City was led by undersized center Jaylene Simmons. The wide bodied Springfield Southeast post did a nice job of carving out space inside and scoring in the paint.

[program_tooltip program_id='2075532' first='Illinois' last='Bears'] vs [program_tooltip program_id='2075385' first='Chicago' last='Grinders'] 17U Goes to Wire

The next contest was much closer as in a north vs south in-state battle the [program_tooltip program_id='2075532' first='Illinois' last='Bears'] 17U knocked off [program_tooltip program_id='2075385' first='Chicago' last='Grinders'] 77-75. Breese Central 2024 6'4” shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='1428864' first='Mason' last='Shubert'] had it rolling with his toughness on drives, mixed in some jumpers, and was active defensively creating turnovers for 21 points. His backcourt mate Vienna's [player_tooltip player_id='1541254' first='Owen' last='Treat'] also came up huge in the win recording 17 points scoring in a variety of ways while running the show. Aiden Hinton is a workman like small forward that plays with a high-motor. Flashed more skill than we had seen previously knocking in a pair of threes for 10 points. They also got a rock solid outing from Benton 6'0” guard [player_tooltip player_id='1970913' first='Isaac' last='Billington'] as the 2024 prospect had 11 points draining jumpers and dishing it to his teammates.

Wells is getting a good one in Farragut transfer [player_tooltip player_id='1373442' first='Jonathan' last='Calmese']. It was the best we have seen the lead guard play in his career. The 2024 guard was hyped early and flashed, but never quite put it all together. Really liked his playmaking in this one getting others involved while also attacking the basket and draining a few threes for 19 points. First look at Westinghouse 6'2” shooting guard DJ Bolden this spring. He is a straight bucket getter as he notched 25 points in the loss putting pressure on the rim and stopping and popping from mid-range.

LSU Commit Leads LA Broncos to 2-0 Record

The LA Broncos 17U are one of the most fun teams to watch on the Prep Hoops Circuit and the Louisiana squad showed that recording a pair of Ws we saw 72-68 over Gateway Basketball Club 17U and then 76-67 over Gateway Basketball Club 16U. The story was Trey'Dez Green. The LSU basketball and football commit lived up to the hype as always. The #1 TE in the country on the gridiron looks every bit the part of a top 30-50 hoops recruit nationally. He went for 20 points and 20 rebounds in the first game and then followed it up with 32 points and 10 rebounds. First he might have the quickest second jump I have ever seen on the offensive glass. That powered him to quite a few buckets along with his hook shot, explosive baseline takes, and rim running in transition. Snatches rebounds in traffic and is a force defensively swatting shots.

The Broncos are more than just Green. Broad shouldered 2024 two guard [player_tooltip player_id='1479625' first='Broderick' last='Brooks'] is a combo guard that is a natural bucket getter. Can create for himself with threes off the bounce along with slashes taking a bump at the cup. [player_tooltip player_id='2197029' first='Kheiri' last='Haynes'] was the leader at the point as the floor general got everyone involved with his passing and speed in the open floor. Also is a more than adequate shooter from distance. De'rayne Franklin is an athletic wing that plays with a high-motor attacking the offensive glass and getting to the charity stripe.

Gateway Basketball Club Has Prospects to Monitor Throughout Program

Gateway Basketball Club is one of the premier programs out of Missouri. We saw all their UA teams play on Saturday. The 17U group is led by Nilavan Daniels and [player_tooltip player_id='1571715' first='Jay' last='Reynolds']. Daniels had a stellar senior season at Chaminade being one of the most lethal shooters from three in the state. He has opted to do a prep year at Link Year. Lit up the nets for 24 points hitting a couple threes, but showcasing there is more in his bag as well. Reynolds is an athletic two guard that liked to get out in the open floor and slash for 16 points against the LA Broncos.

The 16U team has a nice amount of depth. Hickman big man [player_tooltip player_id='1419872' first='Brock' last='Camp'] was their top performer netting 16 points in the game we caught. Physical five that has mobility and touch along with bringing some defense. Point guard Ty Price was phenomenal with his sharp shooting draining five triples en route to his 15 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1557486' first='DJ' last='Johnson'] from John Burroughs is a lengthy wing with projectability that scores in transition and putting it on the deck going for 12 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1557460' first='Owen' last='Duff'] from Desmet had 11 points in the loss with baseline takes, runners, and a three. Columbia (IL) power forward [player_tooltip player_id='1568153' first='Sam' last='Donald'] is a stretch four with legit size at 6'8” being able to knock in triples while passing to cutters as he had 8 points.

At the 15U level they had a trio that caught our attention. Physically the most intriguing long term is Principia forward Ian Okoro. Long and angular combo flashed with an and-1 and couple other finishes inside. Desmet wing [player_tooltip player_id='2090515' first='Isadore' last='Ba'] is an athletic wing that was stellar getting to the cup with his soft touch finishing game. Rolla two guard [player_tooltip player_id='1790000' first='Ethan' last='Brown'] made sound decisions with the ball in his hands all game long for nifty finishes over and over.

[program_tooltip program_id='2075957' first='The' last='Work Foundation'] 17U Wins Tight Contest vs [program_tooltip program_id='2078449' first='[program_tooltip program_id='2076910' first='Meanstreets' last='']' last=''] Napier

This was another nail biter as it came down to the wire where [program_tooltip program_id='2075957' first='The' last='Work Foundation'] defeated in-state opponent [program_tooltip program_id='2078449' first='[program_tooltip program_id='2076910' first='Meanstreets' last='']' last=''] Napier 54-53. Oak Lawn 2025 two guard [player_tooltip player_id='1766472' first='Donte' last='Montgomery'] is a smooth scorer that notched 13 points in the win scoring mostly off the bounce while also showing some improved playmaking and excellent defense. [player_tooltip player_id='1439013' first='Julien' last='Doyle'] from Simeon is having a strong spring as the lanky 2025 wing fits the three and D description perfectly. TF North 2024 post Leon Cook is a vet on this team with most of the group playing up. He brings toughness and efficiency finishing out of the dunker spot.

[program_tooltip program_id='2078449' first='[program_tooltip program_id='2076910' first='Meanstreets' last='']' last=''] Napier got a nice outing from Crete Monee smaller guard Tayshaun Russell. The 2024 guard is a dynamic scorer that can drain threes and finish with floaters in the paint. Rochelle wing [player_tooltip player_id='2104976' first='Elijah' last='Luxton'] is a sharp shooter with size at 6'3”. [player_tooltip player_id='2105089' first='Antonio' last='Tyler'] is an intriguing physical 6'7” center from Marshall that plays defense, rebounds, and finishes with power.

De La Salle Duo Make Name for [program_tooltip program_id='2075383' first='Chicago' last='Demons'] 17U

A pair of De La Salle prospects jumped off the floor for the [program_tooltip program_id='2075383' first='Chicago' last='Demons'] in their 57-48 win against the Missouri 66ers. Ali Mbaye is a 6'7” long and angular four that showed he could finish with either hand around the hoop, drop in mid-range jumpers with consistency, and use his length on defense. Bryant Hedrick is a strong guard that loves to attack downhill getting to the cup, but showed growth as a shooter in this one as well.

For the Missouri 66ers it was Barron Duda that went off for a monster outing as he had 25 points draining three after three.

Tedeschi and Barrington Telepathy Leads [program_tooltip program_id='2075532' first='Illinois' last='Bears'] 16U to Win

I have always said that my best friend Caitlin and I have telepathy as we know what each other are thinking without even saying it. That is how it seemed it was going between Carterville point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1545140' first='Drew' last='Barrington'] and his running mate Benton's [player_tooltip player_id='1545126' first='Docker' last='Tedeschi'] as they led the [program_tooltip program_id='2075532' first='Illinois' last='Bears'] 16U to a 4-0 weekend including a 58-37 W over Kentucky Future. They seemed to know where each other were on the court before they even moved. Both are excellent passers which helps. Barrington is a high IQ lead guard that found his four man on cuts and lobs with regularity while mixing in 14 points of his own throwing himself all over the place for scores in the lane. Tedeschi is a great distributor out of the high-post as he often found Barrington on cuts to the rim. Plus shooter that is a legit threat from three while being able to play above the cup. Showed off his toughness on the defensive end along with athleticism high pointing rebounds and blocking shots.

Kentucky Future's bright spot was guard Braden Fugate. The combo guard is a solid shooter with a floater game in the paint for 12 points.

Illinois Orange Deep With Metro East Talent in 2024 and 2025

The last game we caught was the Illinois Orange 61-37 victory. This program is quickly racking up talent in the metro east and that was shown on Saturday. A pair from Belleville East led the way in their win over Marcus Denmon Select. Lancers 6'0” point guard Christian Jenkins is a stocky guard that can score from all over the floor. Broad shouldered 6'4” 2025 small forward [player_tooltip player_id='1404855' first='Nathaniel' last='Smith'] is a three and D wing that can really shoot from three, play defense, and take a bump at the cup.
