This weekend, a different AAU circuit made it to the Hoop State, as MADE Hoops hosted their Southeast Warmup session, chock full of high quality teams from North Carolina and the surrounding states. I was able to catch some big games and teams on Friday, and below are some of the standouts from the games I watched.
Thompson was awesome in Team United 2025’s pair of blowout wins on Friday, as the wing was all over the court doing whatever was asked of him. His team started games off in a pressure defense and played aggressively in the half court and he was always involved. He was active on and off the ball, making life a nightmare for anyone who wanted to score the ball on him. Offensively, he did a variety of different things but excelled in transition. He ran the floor well and spaced it so his teammates could either score or find him open for layups or jumpers. His shooting stroke has continued to improve and looks really smooth from the action I saw, and he is confident shooting perimeter and mid-range jumpers. He’s a very well rounded prospect that should shoot up ranking boards and onto coaches radars this summer as he plays EYBL.
Highlights
Powell is an unsigned senior we saw lead Team Push NC to a huge win over Team CP3’s top EYBL team this weekend, and he was all over the floor making plays to lead his squad. He thrives in the mid-range and around the rim, making plays off the bounce all the time. His pull-up jumpers made defenses afraid of him, and then he punished them by getting downhill and to the cup. He also makes opponents struggle every time they see him guarding them, and put in some big shifts guarding CP3’s wings and guards that could really score the ball. He is also a true gamer, as he was obviously locked in the whole time against CP3, but seemed like he maintained that high intensity and energy level for the entire weekend. He is a name coaches still filling out their 2023 class need to check in on.
Knight is someone that D1 coaches need to see ASAP before his recruitment blows up this summer. He’s got a lot of tools as a big forward, and really stretches the floor with a pure jump shot. He’s primarily a spot up threat right now, but his ability to knock down the three is going to translate big time to the college game. He’s got good ball handling skills for his size, and does all that’s asked of him as a big man on the glass. His floor stretching ability reminds me a bit of Riley Allenspach Riley Allenspach 6’11” | C Providence Day | 2023 State NC from this years class, but I believe his potential is higher in terms of playing behind the arc and impacting the game offensively. He’s going to be a big time name in the 2026 class very soon.
Highlights
Rechetnikov had a solid weekend for Up Next Hoops, a program continuing to get more traction this year. He brings a long, versatile body as a wing to the court, and looks to have grown some more and increased his wingspan and length. He’s still doing what he’s always done best though, and that’s shooting the ball at a high clip. He knocked down shots all weekend for his team, which kept them in the game at the right times against some strong competition. He does whatever is asked of him on both ends of the floor, and there’s a lot of potential room for growth with his body type and already existing length. He should grow into a 3 and D wing that a lot of lower level schools would be remiss to not recruit at some point soon.
Gladden has had an impressive grassroots season so far, playing well for Team Trezz over their first couple weeks of competition. He has been tasked with playing more as a lead guard than normal during his high school season, and he has shown he has those tools in his game. He can make the right read and enjoys having freedom so he can push the ball and make plays in transition. He’s also been adept at knocking down jumpers, and improving at finishing at the rim. He’s got a prototypical guard’s body, but some additional work in the weight room will set him up for a lot of success on the court, as his natural athleticism is already a plus. He’s going to be a name that should continue to stand out for D1 and D2 coaches to get an eye on this summer as his recruitment opens.
