Jalen Montonati Jalen Montonati 6'7" | SF Owasso | 2026 State OK , THE BEST SHOOTER IN THE COUNTRY?
It’s hard not to be hyperbolic when watching Jalen Montonati Jalen Montonati 6'7" | SF Owasso | 2026 State OK over the last few months. Even with being familiar with the talented 2026 prospect and having high expectations for the start of his high school career; he has consistently surpassed them. Raising the bar along the way.
The Owasso Ram has one of the smoothest shots in the state and this weekend proved it’s one of the best in the country. He hits in a variety of ways. Off the ball running into catch and shoot situations. Smooth step backs. Clutch mid-range pull ups. His jumper is pure in all forms. Surely after this weekend he has to be among the best shooters in the nation for the Class of 2026.
There’s also another factor when talking about his game, Montonati simply has “IT”. He’s starting to build a resume of big time performances in high leverage moments. The way he closed out a close game against Drive Nation was proof of that.
Early foul trouble hampered him and then in the fourth quarter an opponent drained a late go ahead three over him. Montonati responded by grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back. Next possession, he drains a catch and shoot opportunity. Then he put MoKan up for good with a smooth stepback three pointer. 8 straight points and a victory that punched his squad’s ticket to the championship game. Which they would go on to win.
WARLICK’S PRODUCTION TRANSLATES
A broken record concept, Dylan Warlick Dylan Warlick 6'6" | SF Edmond North | 2024 State #226 Nation OK ‘s production is undeniable. Despite how much he had produced in high school and AAU, he still seemed overlook by college coaches. But it appears that the drumbeat is finally growing louder. George Mason and Cal Poly pulled the trigger this week. With the strong possibility more schools will follow in the upcoming days.
Watching Warlick battle against the top athletes in the nation, it’s becoming even more apparent that he will simply find a way to get it done at the next level. Along with his ferocious scoring style. He’s an outstanding rebounder and even flashed some hops with a huge block against New Jersey Scholars.
An advantage to his style of play that should translate, is his mismatch potential. When matched up with guards, he can punish them on post ups and bully ball. When matched up with forwards, he’s a step quicker and strong enough to find an advantage. He’s tenacious. He’s productive. He’s Wolverine.
POTENTIAL INTO PRODUCTION
It’s a phrase I might overuse when writing, because I often want to acknowledge that a player has the potential to be a high profile prospect. But up to that point, they have lacked the production to reach the upper echelon of prospects.
The offers. The production. The highlights posted to twitter seem to point that Chris Mason Chris Mason 6'6" | PF Victory Christian | 2024 State OK has started to unlock more of his sky high ceiling. If Mason builds off this strong April, he’s the type of prospect who could end up in the double digits with offers.
It’s fun to watch the light come on for prospects, here’s to Mason’s light shining brighter and more “potential into production” prospects following in his footsteps.
