In the first game Ann Arbor Pioneer had a thrilling comeback victory against a tough Saline team. In game 2, Ann Arbor Huron held off Ypsilanti Lincoln to pick up the win. Each team had at least 1 very talented young player which bodes well for the future of all 4 teams. Let’s take a look at 1 of these players from each team.
Moore is quickly becoming an elite playmaker. He’s always been a high end talent in southeastern Michigan, but the entire state is taking notice this season. Moore has some really nice handles and showed that he can go either way off the bounce. He protects the ball in traffic and creates for himself as well as his teammates.
Tyler Mutinda
Tyler Mutinda
Mutinda isn’t an underclassman, but he is just a junior and will be returning next year. He came off the bench for Ann Arbor Pioneer and had a huge influence on the game. Mutinda brought instant energy on both ends and provided a much needed spark. He did a good job not chasing the help and staying home on D. Mutinda scored some tough points under the rim. There’s some real upside to this powerful young man.
I’m sure the loss wasn’t the way the star freshman wanted to end his season, but he has nothing to hang his head over. He was given the reigns to the team and was asked be the go to scoring option as well as set the table offensively. That’s a ton to ask out of a young point guard, but he was up to the challenge all season long. He’ll be a force again next season on a young Hornets squad.
Ya Sin Ali
Ya Sin Ali
Ali is one of 2 underclassmen on the Lincoln roster and I really like what he can bring to the table the next 2 years. Coach Davis can develop talent and this young man can be a key piece. Ali has quick feet on both ends and can get up and down the court in a hurry. As he learns to apply pressure with his solid ball handling, his game will flourish.
