Even against elite competition, Top 1 had players from the 17u, 16u and 15u bracket that stood out with their play. Let’s take a look at some of the Top 1 standouts at the The Stage!
Johnathan Morgan
Johnathan Morgan
Morgan made a splash at The Stage! It should come as no surprise since he also plays up on the 16u squad. He showed the he can both score and distribute as a guard. Morgan had a 30 point and 20 point games in the first day of the event. He also added 7 and 6 assists in those games as well.
Nick Hurley
Nick Hurley
Hurley was definitely a standout for Top 1 at The Stage. He showed off a smooth jumper and looked very comfortable pulling up off the bounce. Hurley has a ton of potential with his mid range game with his ability to pull up in traffic. He used his solid court vision to get the ball in it’s spots.
Hudson will be a player to watch on Top 1 17u over the spring and the summer. The forward has a lot to offer and shows a willingness to “do the little things”. He was a tough and physical defender at The Stage and provided a lot of energy on that end. Hudson was one of the better rebounders in the bracket.
Highlights
Speaking of physical defenders above with Hudson, Meehan fits that bill on the Top 1 15u team. He flat out got after it in the paint last weekend. Meehan was a want it rebounder that was willing to outwork his opponent for the board. His physicality allowed him to get to the line often and he converted when there, shooting 80% from the stripe. All this, and he’s playing up as an 8th grader.
Highlights
Gay was at his best letting his defense dictate his game. He was so disruptive on the perimeter all weekend. Gay is a lockdown defender that can be counted on to defend the top scoring option on the other team. He played the passing lanes, forced turnovers and turned them into buckets on the other end.
Highlights
Martin certainly left his mark with his play at The Stage with Top 1 17u. He was very impressive as a true 2 way player. He was always at 100% on the defensive end and seemed to take pride in picking up stops. Martin is a dangerous shooter that can fill it up, but he’s also more than willing to pass up a good shot for a teammate to get a great one.
Highlights
Hammad is a great addition to any roster as a leader both on and off the court. He was very good with Top 1 16u last weekend. He showed that he can groove his jumper and be a knockdown shooter. Hammad also gets after it on the defensive end. He’s a vocal defender that keeps his teammates aware and alert.
