That is one of the toughest parts of playing sports. The season ends at some point. Be proud of what you accomplished and remember the great experiences that you had. You are all winners. For all the seniors, there are people all over who admire your dedication and hard work. You made it fun for your community to follow. Stand tall. You will have many opportunities in life to reach your goals. No matter how that might be. Here are a few winners from the state 2B tournament. I will have more coming.

I watched the semi final game vs Brewster. This kid was a winner. He kept his team in the game and came up short in the end but he was great. He hit some huge shots. He had at least 5 threes and hit three in a row in the first half. He brought the ball end to end and finished at the rim. He was impressive and only a Sophomore. Tough kid, great player who can score it from anywhere.
Another sophomore. I watched him twice. He is a baller. He is always in control and if you leave him it’s almost automatic. His mid-game is as good as I saw in the tournament. He has a soft touch and makes some tough shots. He squares well to the basket and his legs are under him on his shots. He did it all, including over 20 points in the second half when his team separated themselves from Lake Roosevelt. He makes it look easy. He is strong and crafty. One of my favorite players to watch in the tournament.
He might get that championship. What impressed me with him was his ability to facilitate. At times it looks like he could score 40,but the amount of assists he had to wide open teammates was special. He picked the defense apart when he was doubled . He would blow by the defense and drop it to his teammate for a layup time after time. He plays the game with a smoothness and effortlessly,. Always under control and never panics. He also threw down a bunch of highlight reel dunks. He is the real deal.

I watched Mossyrock’s victory over Lummi in the first round. I was impressed with this kid. He had 24 points. I was more impressed with his willingness to rebound. Here’s a kid who maybe 6’0 that pulled down 14 rebounds. He crashed on the offensive , and defensive end, and was the player who wanted those rebounds more. His effort during his game was huge, and a big reason why Mossyrock was able to hold on and advance. They will be playing in the 4th and 6th place game today. I’m not surprised. They have talent and a Hall of Fame coach who knows a little about state tournament games. Coach Tom Kelly has won two state titles as a girls coach in WA state. One for River Ridge and another for WF West.
I believe he went over 1, 000 points in the tournament. He had some great shots that most high school players do not make. whether it be pulling a three, mid jumper, or doing what he does best, getting into the paint. It was he and his team’s effort that got them to where they are.
Jerome is just a freshman. He is not a big kid, in fact he’s quite small in stature. His game is quite big. He is a point guard with great ball-handling skills and a basketball IQ that was evident from the start. He is aware and always in control. He is a great shooter. He hit numerous threes and scored 30 points. He changes speeds, uses his dribble and is crafty. He got into the paint and made some tough shots. The way he picked his spots and scored the ball was way beyond freshman anything. He will be a problem in 1B for the next three years.
