Maurio Hanson Maurio Hanson 6’7″ | PF JL Chambers | 2024 State NC is due to show his growth around the rim this summer with Team CP3 after a productive season with JL Chambers High. He’s a confident forward with nice footwork and movement around the rim that can fill it up in a hurry with his mobility and ability to make plays for others as a passer out of the post. He produced 14.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.1 apg, and 1.5 bpg on 58 percent shooting from the the field in the Cougars frontcourt during the high season as a junior. His recruiting should turn a corner this spring/summer on the EYBL scene given his activity/ability.
Bobby Cannon Jr Bobby Cannon Jr 6’10” | PF Forsyth Country Day | 2024 State NC is a sizeable name to get to know in the 2024 class at 6-foot-10. He’s a forward prospect that’s capable of stretching the floor with his ability to handle the ball on the perimeter and make things happen. He’ll be running with Garner Road on the 3SSB Circuit this grassroots season and look to utilize his length around the rim on both ends to make his presence felt. He averaged 11,9 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 1.9 bpg on 55 percent shooting from the floor and 46 percent from 3-point land in 2022-23 this past season at Quality Education Academy.
Lleyton Thomas-Johnson Lleyton Thomas-Johnson 6’4″ | SG Christ School | 2024 State NC is a versatile prospect on the wing at 6-foot-4 that saw good returns on his junior season at Christ School in 2022-23. He put up 5.4 ppg and 2.6 rpg while shooting 51 percent from the floor and 41 percent from behind the arc, showcasing his skills as a presence on the perimeter and around the rim with his length/athleticism. He’ll be running with Team Carolina/ Charlotte Royals during the grassroots season and will be one for DI and DII programs to track.

Sebastian Akins Sebastian Akins 6’2″ | PG 1 of 1 Academy | 2024 State NC is a name to get to know in the 2024 class at the guard spot. He’s a 6-foot-2 combo guard with an ability to take over games with his ability to defend the basketball and finish around the rim. He posted 10.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.8 apg and 1.2 spg at 1 of 1 Academy in 2022-23. He’ll be a name for DII programs in the region to keep eyes on this grassroots cycle as he improves his perimeter shooting and shows off his mid-range game that will be running with 1 of 1 Elite in the Concord area.
Kaleb Spencer Kaleb Spencer 6’9″ | PF First Flight | 2024 State NC is a name out of Manteo High to keep an eye on with Garner Road Select this grassroots season following his junior campaign on the high school scene. He’s a wiry forward prospect listed at just 6-foot-6 but plays a lot bigger given his wingspan and athleticism. He finished the season with 15.6 ppg, 12.6 rpg and 6.2 bpg for the Manteo Redskins this past season. He’s a prospect that flies around the floor on all fronts, utilizing his length to force deflections on defense and finish around the rim on offense. He’s a name for DI and DII programs in the region to track this spring/summer.

Desmond Kent Jr Desmond Kent Jr 6’5″ | SF Central Cabarrus | 2024 State NC is coming off quite the performance in the high school season as Central Cabarrus took home the NCHSAA 3A State Title and finished a perfect 32-0 in 2022-23. Kent is a 6-foot-5 wing/forward that flies around the paint wreaking havoc defensively and is a burden to guard with the ball in his hands getting to the rim offensively. He put up 16 points, four rebounds and four blocks in their victory over Northwood High in the state championship game. He’s a long, athletic name to keep an eye on with BSA Supreme in the 704 area.
