Here’s who’s moving on after a fun set of district finals:
SUBSTATE 1
-Fifth-ranked West Christian (19-3) topped Estherville Lincoln Central, 69-58, in Tuesday’s District 1 championship game at Sheldon. Tate VanRegenmorter has paced the Wolfpack with 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season.
-The Wolfpack will take on No. 10 West Lyon in Saturday’s substate title contest at MOC-Floyd Valley. The Wildcats (18-4) eliminated Emmetsburg, 66-55, in Tuesday’s District 2 final at Okoboji. They were led by Darren Meyer’s 22 points and four rebounds. Carson Hoogeveen Carson Hoogeveen 5'10" | PG West Lyon | 2025 State IA (16 points, 7 assists) and Trevor Ciesielski Trevor Ciesielski 6'1" | PG West Lyon | 2024 State IA (15 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds) also stood out for the winners.
SUBSTATE 2
-No. 4 Sioux Central (23-0) reached the substate final with an 80-59 win against South Central Calhoun in Tuesday’s District 3 championship at Storm Lake. Carter Boettcher Carter Boettcher 6'1" | PG Sioux Central | 2023 State IA netted 32 points and dished out nine assists for Rebels, who also received 26 points and 11 rebounds from Jacob Hargens Jacob Hargens 6'2" | PG Sioux Central | 2023 State IA as well as 16 points from Ethan Mills.
-Kuemper Catholic is next up for Sioux Central after the Knights knocked off OABCIG, 79-57, in Tuesday’s District 4 final at East Sac County. Kuemper (17-6) got 21 points from Michael Kasperbauer Michael Kasperbauer 5'11" | PG Kuemper Catholic | 2024 State IA , while DJ Vonnahme added 14 points, eight rebounds, two steals and a block for the victors.
SUBSTATE 3
-Second-rated Roland-Story (23-1) advanced with a 61-55 triumph against South Hardin in Tuesday’s District 5 championship game at Gilbert. The Norsemen have been led this season by Isaiah Naylor Isaiah Naylor 6'0" | SG Roland-Story | 2023 State IA (18.4 PPG) and Luke Patton Luke Patton 6'5" | PF Roland-Story | 2023 State IA (10.3 PPG, 13.3 RPG).
-Roland-Story will meet Hudson in Saturday’s substate final at Marshalltown. The Pirates (18-6) topped Union Community, 79-54, in Tuesday’s District 6 title contest at Dike New Hartford. Junior Luke Patton Luke Patton 6'5" | PF Roland-Story | 2023 State IA (24 points, 15 rebounds) paced the winners with teammates Lyle Olsen Lyle Olsen 6'0" | PG Hudson | 2024 State IA (21 points) and Culin Ugrin Culin Ugrin 6'1" | SG Hudson | 2024 State IA (19) also reaching double figures in scoring.
SUBSTATE 4
-No. 8 Lake Mills (23-0) bested Osage, 72-47, in Tuesday’s District 7 final at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura. Lance Helming Lance Helming 6'5" | PF Lake Mills | 2024 State IA scored 21 points for the victors, while Aiden Stensrud Aiden Stensrud 6'6" | PF Lake Mills | 2025 State IA , a sophomore, grabbed 20 rebounds to go with 16 points. Eli Menke contributed 14 points and six rebounds to the cause.
-Lake Mills meets MFL MarMac in Saturday’s substate championship at Charles City. The Bulldogs (23-1) beat Beckman Catholic, 54-51, in Tuesday’s District 8 finale at Central Elkader. They were led by Carver Blietz-Bentein’s 17 points. Parker Kuehl added 16 points and Zach Driscoll Zach Driscoll 6'0" | SG Decorah | 2025 State IA 15 for the winners.
SUBSTATE 5
-Third-ranked Aplington-Parkersburg (21-2) proved too much for Jesup during a 74-58 District 9 final win. Cooper Hoff Cooper Hoff 5'10" | SG Aplington-Parkersburg | 2024 State IA and Martez Wiggley Martez Wiggley 6'4" | PF Aplington-Parkersburg | 2023 State IA each scored 16 points for the Falcons, while teammate Garrett Hempen Garrett Hempen 5'10" | PG Aplington-Parkersburg | 2023 State IA added 13.
-A-P will face Monticello in Saturday’s substate title game at Dike-New Hartford. The Panthers (16-6) took out No. 9 Alburnett, 57-51, in Tuesday’s District 10 championship tilt at Marion. Prep Hoops’ Tony Roe filed takeaways from that contest.
SUBSTATE 6
-No. 6 West Burlington (22-1) marched on with a 49-32 triumph against Albia in Tuesday’s District 11 finale at Davis County. Jace Figuereo scored 16 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Falcons. Brady Martin Brady Martin 6'0" | PG West Burlington | 2024 State IA (13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists) and Mason Watkins Mason Watkins 6'2" | PG West Burlington | 2025 State IA (12 points, four assists) also shined during the victory.
-West Burlingon next meets Pella Christian in Saturday’s substate championship tilt at Oskaloosa. The Eagles (14-9) bested Wilton, 68-65, in Tuesday’s District 12 title matchup at Williamsburg. Aiden Stoltz Aiden Stoltz 6'0" | SG Pella Christian | 2023 State IA (22 points) and Tysen Devries Tysen Devries 5'9" | PG Pella Christian | 2024 State IA (21) were high scorers in the win. Wilton’s Caden Kirkman Caden Kirkman 6'8" | PF Wilton | 2023 State IA completed his outstanding prep career with 26 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
SUBSTATE 7
-Seventh-rated AHSTW (21-2) moved on with a 64-49 win against Van Meter in Tuesday’s District 13 final at West Central Valley. Brayden Lund Brayden Lund 6'4" | SF AHSTW | 2023 State IA netted 20 points for the victors. Kyle Sternberg Kyle Sternberg 6'4" | SG AHSTW | 2023 State IA (14), Nick Denning (10) and Ryan Wedemeyer (10) also reached double figures in scoring for the Vikings.
-Des Moines Christian will challenge AHSTW in Saturday’s substate title contest at ADM. The Lions (17-6) edged Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, 55-54, in Tuesday’s District 14 championship at Oskaloosa. Carsen Theis Carsen Theis 6'1" | SG Des Moines Christian | 2023 State IA drilled a game-winning trey.
SUBSTATE 8
-No. 1 Central Lyon (20-1) advanced with a 65-50 victory against West Sioux in Tuesday’s District 15 championship at MOC-Floyd Valley. Iowa Football signee Zach Lutmer Zach Lutmer 6'1" | PG Central Lyon | 2023 IA paced the Lions with 24 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Andrew Austin Andrew Austin 6'6" | PF Central Lyon | 2023 State IA added 23 points and 11 boards for the winners, while teammate Reece Vander Zee Reece Vander Zee 6'5" | SF Central Lyon | 2024 State IA chipped in with 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
-Central Lyon next clashes with Treynor, a 63-53 winner against Underwood in Tuesday’s District 16 final at Lincoln. Jace Tams Jace Tams 5'11" | PG Treynor | 2024 State IA scored 16 points and corralled four rebounds for the Cardinals (17-6). Ethan Konz (11 points) and Karson Elwood (10) also scored in double figures for them.
