The Trabuco Hills Mustangs hosted the Capo Valley Cougars this evening on the opening night of league play. Both teams are looking to get ahead in the South Coast League standings. It was a tight game at the half with Trabuco Hills taking a 29-28 lead going into the second half. The scoring guard, Nate Tuttle lead the Mustangs with 9 points at the half.
By the end of the game, Nate still led both teams in scoring to win the game with 18 points. The key to the Mustangs’ success though was Matt Mowers. A walking triple-double threat had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. He is one of the most unique players I have seen at the high school level. On the offensive end, Matt will bring whatever you are looking for out of his game. With one more season out of him next year, Mowers is someone I would take a chance on if you are a college coach.
Taking a look at the Cougars’ star guard, Jalen Constantino is a shifty guard who takes control on both ends for his team. As a senior, he is a bit short, but he doesn’t seem to care. At the college level, he could provide an instant burst of energy in the form of pressure defense, steady hold of the ball, and setting up his teammates with shifty passing.
In a dominant 60-39 win by the Mustangs, both teams had some promising young players and I am looking forward to watching the South Coast League play out.
