Continue ReadingBuchanan was the main guy for a Booker T. Washington team that struggled to get baskets on a well coached Shady Spring squad. Buchanan’s offensive game is intriguing. His combination of skill and length made him a hard stop for the Shady Springs defense. After a slow start, Buchanan started to feel comfortable in the offense and made a pair of triples that gave Washington new life in the 3rd quarter. With his length and shiftiness, Buchanan was able to get shots up over both shorter and taller defenders at will. He showed spurts of athleticism and had a bag deep enough to help him utilize that athleticism once he got downhill. Buchanan is a kid to watch this year in the panhandle.
Brady Patterson
Brady Patterson
Patterson was a jolt of energy for a stagnant Providence squad throughout the weekend. While the tournament was a host of ups and downs for the Stallions, Patterson was a bright spot they can be excited about. Despite coming off the bench, Patterson was thrust into a starting role after his first game due to his energetic ball handling and ability to create offense. He is a lights out shooter who always seemed to find the right spot for an open three. His tight handle and vision helped get the Stallions off the ground and generated some much needed offense at times. Defensively, Patterson was another burst of energy as he was unafraid to slow down any player that came his way. No matter what team he was playing, Patterson was ready to go at the first man that came his way. Patterson is just a junior and will no doubt be an important part of this team’s future development.
David Fonville
David Fonville
In a tight game against Charlotte, Fonville emerged as an unlikely hero and immediately garnered the respect of all the scouts in the gym. Fonville was electric from behind the arc for Providence. He spaced the floor and had a respectable size to grab rebounds and finish around the basket. While Fonville’s main appeal was his shooting, he was definitely a glue guy who was able to help his team stay cohesive and was unafraid of taking big shots in the big moments. He was a fun guy to watch and will be an important piece for Providence moving forwards.
