Expert Analysis
Ross Van De Griek | Prep Hoops Scout
Jordyn Buchanan, A 6-6 senior wing who can occasionally play both guard positions as he brings strength, length and athleticism to his game. He is unafraid to play with physicality on both ends of the floor as he is very active on the defensive end. He is a menace on the glass at both ends of the floor where he can score off put-backs or tips. Buchanan is one of the most exciting prospects to watch in the senior class as he has also gained confidence in building an outside shot. His burst of speed has also been fun to watch this summer and in the early stages of the fall.

The 6-5 wing didn’t take long to catch my eye on Saturday night against Bell Creek Academy. Buchanan has some great instincts when he is out on the floor as he displayed his ability to be a true three-level scorer. His effectiveness on the court took a lot of notice as he’s drawn attention from several D2 schools so far this summer.

It didn’t take Jordyn Buchanan long to catch my eye on Friday as he came out firing against Hiram. Buchanan has a unique package, a big time athlete at 6’5 and also a deadly three-point shooter. He’s got good instincts on the defensive end and turned many lazy passes into transition dunks. While Buchanan is effective and impactful right now, the long term potential is scary. North Florida, Flagler, and Edward Waters all offered after watching him this weekend.

The 6-6 rising senior wing is a physical basketball player who uses his strength, athleticism and frame to an advantage on any given night. He is at his best when he is finishing around the rim and absorbing contact where he can get to the free throw line. On the defensive end he brings elusive quickness and is a solid rim protector for a wing.

The 6-5 small forward is an intriguing prospect as he has a combined skillset of size and length. Buchanan can also shoot it from the perimeter if he is having the confidence on that particular night. Buchanan averaged 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game this past season for Booker T. Washington. He has spurts where he will finish around the rim against smaller defenders or if he will force a tough shot against bigger defenders. Interested to see how his spring and summer seasons play out, as Buchanan will be playing with Judah Nation .

Buchanan was the main guy for a Booker T. Washington team that struggled to get baskets on a well coached Shady Spring squad. Buchanan’s offensive game is intriguing. His combination of skill and length made him a hard stop for the Shady Springs defense. After a slow start, Buchanan started to feel comfortable in the offense and made a pair of triples that gave Washington new life in the 3rd quarter. With his length and shiftiness, Buchanan was able to get shots up over both shorter and taller defenders at will. He showed spurts of athleticism and had a bag deep enough to help him utilize that athleticism once he got downhill. Buchanan is a kid to watch this year in the panhandle.
