On Monday, Broken Arrow ascended to the number one spot in Class 6A in the recent coaches rankings. The state’s largest class is headlined by Broken Arrow, Edmond North and Putnam City North. All three teams are #1, #2 and #3 respectively and all three got at least ten first place votes. But for now, the Tigers hold on to that top spot and their first game of the new year came at home against conference foe Owasso. While the Rams got out to a strong start, the veteran Tigers were too much as they would hold off the visiting Rams with a 54-50 win.
The game was close throughout the first half as both teams made runs but the Tigers held a 25-23 advantage at halftime. Broken Arrow would get out to a hot start in the third quarter and they were able to put the Rams in a hole that they would stay in until late in the fourth quarter. The Tigers eventually got up by double digits and that remained the difference for a while before Owasso would rally in the fourth quarter. But Owasso’s rally would fall short as the top-ranked Tigers would improve to 9-0 on the season.
With Putnam City North losing to Putnam City West on Tuesday, the Tigers are the last remaining unbeaten team in Class 6A. The Tigers return to the court on Friday as they hit the road to face Muskogee. Owasso will travel to Sand Springs on Friday night.
Below, we take a look at the top three performing players from both teams from Tuesday night’s game.
BROKEN ARROW’S TOP PERFORMERS
Broken Arrow’s leading scorer was their star senior and Oklahoma State signee Connor Dow Connor Dow 6’6″ | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State #252 Nation OK . The future Cowboy is one of the best pure shooters in the state and that was on full display on Tuesday night. Dow would bury a pair of three-pointers in the third quarter as the Tigers would put the Rams in the hole that they couldn’t overcome. Dow was incredibly efficient from the field when it came to shooting. The Tigers as a team would struggle from the free throw line but Dow was perfect from the charity stripe. Dow would score eight first quarter points as he got out to a hot start but sat for the majority of the second quarter as he was sidelined with foul trouble. Dow was smart about his play in the third quarter and never got back into foul problems. Dow has proven to be one of the top scorers in the state on any given night.
Broken Arrow senior Dason Cook Dason Cook 6’7″ | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State OK and his performance on Tuesday night is a perfect example of Broken Arrow’s belief in position-less basketball. Cook is a 6’6 forward but the Tigers have several players in their starting lineup that range from 6’5 to 6’7. They do a great job of switching and playing multiple positions on the floor. And before the game has moved to more of a belief of position-less basketball, Cook would spend almost all of his time in the paint and not touch the perimeter. But Cook showed that he could knock down shots from the perimeter with a couple made shots from three-point territory. Cook is a player to keep an eye on moving forward as the Tigers look to contend for the state championship. He plays a very important role for the Tigers and does it incredibly well as we watched on Tuesday night.
Highlights
Broken Arrow’s lineup is full of seniors but one of their top prospects is sophomore David Howell David Howell 6’4″ | PG Broken Arrow | 2025 State #329 Nation OK . The sophomore first broke out last season as a freshman that was on a team full of seniors and juniors. On Tuesday night, Howell would have another stellar showing on both sides of the floor. But as we mentioned earlier, the one flaw in Broken Arrow’s game on Tuesday was the performance at the charity stripe. That was the one shortcoming for Howell on Tuesday. The Tigers will need to clean that up down the stretch when they get into playoff games that go down to the wire. But Howell’s athleticism and overall abilities on both ends of the floor was something that stood out from the opening tip. you can make the argument that Howell might have been the top two-way player in Tuesday’s match-up that featured many high profile players.
OWASSO’S TOP PERFORMERS
There’s no doubt that Owasso has a youth movement going on right now. They have several freshmen that are not only in the starting lineup and some of their top contributors, but they are already some of the top 2026 prospects in the state. And we start with point guard Boden Williams Boden Williams 6’1″ | SG Owasso | 2026 State OK . The freshman is splitting time at the point guard position with senior EJ Lewis EJ Lewis 6’1″ | PG Owasso | 2023 State OK and they both bring different attributes to the floor. On Tuesday night, Williams had his pull up jumper working for him and he was able to knock down a few shots in some key moments as Owasso made their run. Another thing that stood out about Williams’ game was his quick hands. And that came into play a few different times. Whether it’s quick hands on defense or making passes at angles that didn’t appear to be there, that certainly stood out.
The game’s leading scorer on Tuesday was Owasso senior Brandon Mann Brandon Mann 6’5″ | SF Owasso | 2023 State OK . While the the Rams are building something with several young players in their lineup, Mann has still been arguably the most productive player for the Rams over the last month. The big bodied guard or undersized forward, however you look at him, had an outstanding start and finish to the game on Tuesday. He would finish with a game-high 22 points in the win. He was a big reason why the Rams jumped out to an early lead with eight points in the first quarter. And he was also crucial as they rallied in the fourth quarter. He would drop 12 points in the final quarter and would go 6-7 from the charity stripe down the stretch. In addition to his scoring, Mann was also really impressive with his athleticism and his strength in the paint.

Owasso’s other standout freshman is arguably the top prospect in Oklahoma’s 2026 class. Jalen Montonati Jalen Montonati 6’7″ | SF Owasso | 2026 State OK finished just shy of double figures but there were things about his game that don’t stand out in the box score. The standout freshman did a good job of getting others involved throughout the night. And the truth of the matter is that Montonati’s shot was just not falling on Tuesday night. He got a few good looks and got good shots off. They just weren’t falling. It’s basketball, and that happens. But Montonati is definitely a prospect to keep an eye on as we close out the regular season. The Rams are going to be a good team to watch moving forward considering all of the young playmakers they have throughout their lineup. Owasso will only continue to get better from here as the young players get more experience.
