He finished the game with 22 points and 7 boards. The stat line itself is impressive but how he earned those points and boards is even more notable as there were no easy buckets and each rebound was a battle. He sprints up the floor in transition, giving his ball handler a clear outlet. Trayden positioned himself well to receive the entry pass from his guards as well as attacked the boards to get a number of put backs. Chambers is a player to keep an eye on as he is only a sophomore and is already playing at an exceptional level.
Evan Crotts Evan Crotts 5'10" | SG Crossings Christian | 2024 State OK 2024 – Crossing Christian: Evan has played consistently in all three games of the Tournament of Champions. He plays both ends of the floor at a good pace – he pushes the ball up the court and finds his open teammates in almost all transition situations. Crotts is a sound defensive player who knows how to get the ball handler to turn but also plays good help side defense. He is the player who can make a difference regardless if he scores or not – he does what is best for his team, not what is best for himself — Oh! ~ and, he hit the game winner in OT against Kingfisher! ** 1 of the most exciting endings to a basketball game that I have watched in a while **
Xavier Ross Xavier Ross 6'7" | PF Edmond North | 2024 State OK 2024 – Edmond North: Xavier is a strong inside player with the ability to shoot from the outside. He uses his size and strength to his advantage; he is able to position himself exactly where he needs to be and can simply over power his opponents. Xavier has a nice touch around the basket and is a tough rebounder. Defensively, he protects his basket and helps cover a lot of ground by being light on his feet and moving well laterally. Xavier does a little bit of everything but one aspect of his game that truly stood out is that he sets ACTUAL screens for his guards because he knows the purpose of the screen – he doesn’t just go through the motions!
Michael Gilyard 2024 – Union: Michael played significant minutes in game 3 against Roff and he had quite the showing. He was aggressive on offense – knocking down 3’s, scoring in transition and creating shots off the dribble. On defense, Gilyard used his length to cause a number of deflections that translated into fast break points. He has a quick first step and when he gets to the rim, he is able to finish with finesse.
