Starting with the Prep School Division on Dec 16th the event runs all the way until the Finals of the Platinum division on Dec 22nd. Best thing about the event is the fact that it has different brackets, allowing teams to compete against comparable competition. An event like this is the perfect opportunity for players who may not be at the top of the recruiting board, to show their value and make a name for themselves. In this article, a follow-up to Deep Sleepers Part 1, we preview some sleepers who could have big impacts for their teams this week.
Palo has one of the top sophomore duos in the state between Miller and Mason Abittan Mason Abittan 6’6″ | SF Red Rock Academy | 2025 State NV . Abittan has been brilliant this season, now it’s Millers turn to show off his talent. The high flyer with three-point shootint ability has a perfect opportunity to impress scouts with his ability this weekend.
When I saw ID this fall, I was really impressed with his development. Now he gets to put it on display in a big time tournament. Cheyenne will be competing in the Orleans bracket, against some good competition. Looking to see if he’s able to finish through contact at the level he did when I saw him this fall.
I’m predicting a breakout week for Ahmed. The lefty has been thrust immediately into a new role for the Grizzlies. Now after some time to practice and learn the system, I look for him to be an asset. He can rebound and score around the basket, two skills that will be counted on if SV is to make a run in the Orleans bracket this weekend.
The Spartans have two young guards, Jesse Judkins Jesse Judkins 5’9″ Shadow Ridge | 2025 State NV and Christian Cardona Christian Cardona 5’8″ | PG Cimarron | 2025 State NV , that contribute, however Branham’s shooting and maturity will be key. The senior guard has the ability to help them win games this week by knocking down threes and setting the tone on the defensive end.
I was really impressed with the Clark freshmen when I saw them earlier this year, now they get their first taste of Tark action. It will be no easy task advancing in this event, but I want to see their composure and skill when facing stiff out of state competition. Alan, has the chance to be the best out of the group, as the PG has shown the ability to create and score the basketball.
No question who everyone will be looking for here. Staton is a mobile seven-footer that improves daily. His ability to block shots and rebound come naturally, but what separates him from other bigs, is his willingness to sprint from rim to rim.
Highlights
Poole has been productive since his freshman season. Now it’s going to be interesting to see how productive the senior guard is. Valley has a good PG and a shooter, Poole’s ability to slash and score in transition should add an extra dynamic to a Viking squad looking to make a run in the Baller bracket.
