I knew he would do some special things this season coming off a great off-season. Through seven games he is averaging 25 points a game and topped the 30-point mark three times. He has made 29 threes in seven games, including an 8-10 performance against Cashmere from deep. He is an athletic wing player at 6’4 with unlimited range. He gets buckets in a hurry with his quick release and ability to run the floor and finish at the rim. He is also getting himself to the free throw line, making 31-39 (80%) showing his ability to create from inside the arc. He has added 6 rebounds a game as well. I have mentioned before that I would not be surprised o see him at the top of the class 1A scoring list and is likely to hit the 40-point mark before the season is over. One of the best shooters in the state who shoots it with confidence and accuracy. Chelan is off to a 5-2 start and a top 10 ranking in class 1A.
I watched a couple of his games this week. He was equally as dominant in both. He scored 34 points in a win over Chewelah and followed with 32 more in a 74-50 win over Napavine. He is no doubt the most explosive athlete in class 2B. He would be a stud at any level. His quick first step makes him tough to stay in front of and he gets to the rim when he wants. He is a player that probably could have scored a lot more but he is unselfish and realizes that his teammates will often be open as a result of the attention he draws. He had numerous assists to wide-open teammates for layups after getting the defense on its heels. He is a great post-up player vs smaller guards and he rebounds well. His athleticism translates directly to the next level. At 6’6, he has great size for a guard and he can defend well with his quickness. Small school, big-time talent. He is one of the best guards at any level in the state. He has the look of a player who has a huge upside, which is scary. He is right up there with Kelson Gebbers Kelson Gebbers 6’6″ | SF Brewster | 2023 State WA of Brewster as an early favorite for class 2B player of the year.
He is off to a great start to the season averaging 23 points a game in his first six. He has had games of 33, 29 twice, and 26 points. He had 13 points and 13 rebounds in his most recent game, a win over Cascade. He can fill it up from all over the floor, making tough shots while filling up the stat sheet. He is excellent at creating in the open floor and uses a lot of creativity to get his buckets. He is a good shooter from three and his mid-range game is on point. He is tough to stop when he gets downhill and uses his strength well to finish. He is a bucket-getter in a big way for Quincy in his senior season
Highlights
He had 26 and 24 points in a win over Clarkston and Liberty. He didn’t have a whole lot of time in between being a standout QB and DB on the Freeman football team that went deep into the playoffs and getting back to the court. He is nevertheless off to a strong start. He is a tough do-it-all guard who I watched nearly record a triple-double in a regional game vs Toppenish last season. It won’t be a surprise if he does that this season with his all-around skills. He is an athlete on the floor. He is strong and at 6’2, and rebounds at a high level. He can score from all levels and play either guard spot and more. He has been a standout starting guard for all of his years at Freeman on some talented teams. He plays with great speed and quickness and could reach a triple-double in more than one way. He impacts the game in all facets. He is fun to watch with his all-over-the-floor playing style.
