Bennett faced off against a tough group of guards and came away with 31 points and a win to show for it. Basich was comfortably handling the ball and getting to his spots about 10 feet away from the rim to knock down a few pull-up jumpers. Also posed a threat from beyond the arc knocking down four 3’s on the game. Bennett has a strong and explosive frame as a guard, and uses it to be a mismatch around the rim as he can simply elevate over the top of whoever’s guarding him. Dominated the glass on both ends of the floor and does a nice job of attacking everything with two hands to ensure he can secure possession.

Evan’s role has consistently grown since his sophomore season, and he’s now a featured player for St. Cats. Even missing a key player on Friday night, Evan helped lead St. Cats to a 30 point trouncing of Martin Luther. The senior guard was able to get to his spots off limited dribbles in the mid-range, while also being a threat from beyond the arc. Evan is a confident shooter who defenses have to account for at all times. Knocked down 4-8 shots from deep as he went for a game high 21 points.

Nolan helped lead Marquette past a tough Catholic Memorial team behind a game high 21 points. You don’t often see guys with Nolan’s length who possess the fluid mobility and explosive bounce that Nolan has. So good at catching in the corner and just attacking along the baseline hard with the ability to elevate and throw down dunks in traffic. While some players with his athleticism might attack the hoop recklessly and go up off balanced, if the lane to dunk isn’t there Nolan does a great job of attacking under control, playing off of two feet, and then going up balanced to finish at a high percentage. Was also his team’s main rebounder pulling in 9 boards in the win.
Jaquan continues to put up video game numbers to start his junior season. In a non-conference matchup against Dominican, Johnson put in a gutsy performance to lead his team to an overtime win. One play that really showed his work rate saw Jaquan pull in multiple offensive rebounds among a crowd of taller players before powering up and finally finishing off the possession with two points. He just plays with an edge and refuses to be outworked by anyone. Defensively he was pressuring the ball hard and then went back the other way to put up 36 points. He’s so good at getting into the lane and finishing with a floater, but also has the strong frame to get all the way to the rim and finish through contact.

Austin will be heading to UW-Milwaukee for track & field in college, but he can put up some impressive numbers on the hardwood as well. He’s an explosive athlete with in-the-gym range when he steps on the floor. Did a great job of staying active off the ball, and always having his hands and feet ready to shoot allowing him to quickly get off a shot when the ball came his way. Was 6-11 from beyond the arc, but also did a nice job of picking his chances to attack the basket, resulting in multiple trips to the free throw line. Defensively he excels at drawing charges as he’s a scrappy on ball defender who can move his feet to constantly take away his man’s angles.

Whereas last season Jamarion was mostly a catch-and-shoot player for MAS, this season he’s had the ball in his hands a lot and has been excellent at creating his own shots. Now a little bit taller, Batemon is able to get to his spots off the dribble and get his shot off with ease over smaller guards. Still has the ability to light it up from deep off the catch, but plays with a fluidity that makes him difficult to read and stay in front of when he looks to attack. Has the length to extend and finish at the rim as well. Finished with 30 points after dropping 32 in MAS’ previous game.
Derrick is one of the best shooters in the 2024 class, but he’s grown to become more than just a shooter. He plays with poise and seems to read the floor at such a high level. His release is lightning quick, and because of that defenders often rush to close out on him, and Derrick is great at recognizing a bad closeout and attacking it. So good at blowing by and then putting up a soft floater that rarely seems to miss. Johnson is very unselfish and if he doesn’t have a shot right away, he’s going to keep the ball moving. You’ll rarely see the ball stick in his hands as he’s constantly scanning the floor for open shooters or the opportunity to feed one of his teammates on the block. Keeps the game simple and it allows him to produce at a high level. Finished with 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists against Pius XI.
