Crossings Christian captured the 2021 Class 3A state championship and then moved up to Class 4A last season. They would still find their way back to the Big House in Oklahoma City and would make it to the semifinals before losing to eventual champion Kingfisher 39-36. The Knights came into this season as one of the top teams in a class in 4A that appears to be the deepest and most competitive class in the state. In the most recent 4A rankings, Crossings came in at #2 with a 7-0 record and they are only behind defending champion Kingfisher.
Crossings has gotten out to a fast start with impressive wins over Millwood and Guthrie on the road and a championship win over Bethany in the Christian Heritage tournament. The Knights beat Guthrie earlier this week 58-55 and that has been their closest game so far this season. Despite being one of the better teams coming into this year, they are also one of the younger teams in Class 4A. We’re confident that not only are the Knights going to be a contender this season, but they will be in the mix for the next two seasons at the least.
We’ll get a great look at Crossings over the next week as they participate in the Tournament Of Champions for the second consecutive season. Last year, they made plenty of noise in the three days in Tulsa and that’s the plan once again this year. They drew the short straw in terms of match-ups as they ended up matching up with 6A’s defending champion Edmond North in the first round on Wednesday. Despite playing Edmond North in the first round, we still think that Crossings could come away with at least two wins during the tournament because they are one of the better teams in the tourney field. And this is a tourney field that features fellow 4A contender Kingfisher, although they are on the opposite side of the bracket.
Below, we take a look at three of the players that have stood out for Crossings Christian following their 7-0 start this season.
We mentioned Crossings Christian returning to the Tournament Of Champions for the second consecutive season and that means the return of sophomore guard Cal Furnish Cal Furnish 5’11” | PG Crossings Christian | 2025 State OK . At this time last year, Furnish was a freshman and came into the TOC as somewhat of an unknown. All it took was three days in Tulsa for Furnish to be considered one of the best impact freshmen in the state. Furnish enjoyed a coming out party at the BOK Center under the bright lights and that really started what would be a fantastic season for the freshman. This year, Furnish has continued to get better and was named the MVP of the Christian Heritage tournament earlier this month. He’s been the best player for Crossings from start to finish and will come into the TOC with plenty of confidence.
Out of the three players listed on this breakdown, the oldest is junior Mack Gudell Mack Gudell 5’10” | SG Crossings Christian | 2024 State OK and has had an outstanding start to his junior year. Gudell had a really good offseason and he has carried that momentum over into the season and is off to a hot start. In that Christian Heritage tournament, Gudell would average nearly 20 points per game in the three tournament games. In the semifinal win, Gudell would also score a game-high 28 points and he showed that he can score from a variety of spots on the floor. Gudell is definitely a name that I personally am looking forward to seeing next week in the Tournament Of Champions. Gudell is definitely giving us the vibes of being that consistent glue guy that championship teams need when they end up making a run.
There are quite a few players that we’re looking forward to having a front row seat to watch for three days during the Tournament Of Champions but few would be higher on that list than freshman sensation Phoenix Woodson Phoenix Woodson 6’8″ | SF Crossings Christian | 2026 State OK . The Crossings standout is already considered one of, if not the best overall prospect in the state’s 2026 class. There are some very special skills that Woodson already possesses. He’s also had quite a few games already this year where he has backed up the hype surrounding him coming into this year. Now, before we get too crazy with the hype train, he is just seven games into his high school career. There is a lot of basketball in his future but he should put on a show in Tulsa as he goes up against some of the other top teams and players in the state.
