In this piece we take a closer look at some of the standout guard performers from the event.
Alex Munzon, 2023, Crespi
Munzon isn’t necessarily the biggest name on a solid Crespi roster, but he’s one of those guys that makes all the right plays at all the right times, which is of the utmost importance for a team as young as the Celts are. The 6-foot-1 combo guard is best when slashing his way to the rim for finishes around the basket, but he can also knock down catch and shoot three’s and is always looking to make the next pass or play for a teammate. Munzon is most valuable on the defensive end and with his intangibles. The senior is an active participant on the offensive glass, first to the floor for 50-50 balls, and is a tough and disruptive defender.
Eli Garner, 2026, Damien
Garner is one of the most talented freshmen in all of Southern California and he showed why in leading the Spartans to a win over St. Bonaventure. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is as smooth as they come on the perimeter, and, for such a young player, he plays with a cool, calm and collected demeanor well-beyond his years. Right now, Garner is a pure scoring two-guard with a fluid perimeter shooting stroke that he can hit from three-point range and off the bounce from the mid-range. What impressed us most about Garner was his basketball IQ as he didn’t force shots and let the game come to him.
Krisitan Gonzalez, 2023, Mater Dei Catholic
Gonzalez single-handedly kept Mater Dei Catholic in the game against Crespi with his impressive display of shot-making ability. The MDC-Chula Vista based combo guard was lights out from three-point range – whether left open or heavily contested – and his ability to elevate over defenders and hit tough-angled shots wowed everyone in attendance. Gonzalez finished with 29 points in a one-point loss to the Celts.
Jackson Mosley Jackson Mosley 5'10" | PG St. Francis | 2023 State CA-S , 2023, St. Francis
Mosely is the type of point guard that every high school coach wants in his starting lineup. The 5-foot-10 senior is as steady and high IQ of a player you’ll find at the prep level and his ability to control pace, run offense, recognize good and bad transition opportunities, and set up teammates in positions where they can be successful makes him an invaluable piece for the Golden Knights. Mosely isn’t of the “score-first” minded point guards we see in today’s game, but he picked his spots well in a win over Rolling Hills Prep as he scored 18 points.
Jeremy Goodcase, 2024, St. Bonaventure
Goodcase is one of those players that when he sees his first shot go through the net, he’s going to play the rest of the game with a ton of confidence – and that’s exactly what happened at the Beat Cancer Challenge. The 6-foot-2 junior has a smooth perimeter jumper that he can hit from multiple spots and multiple ranges of the floor. Goodcase’s ability to come off screens, get shot ready, and quick release make him a player that defenders must close space on him quickly in hopes of running him off the line.
