Bruning is a prospect who is a bit under the radar playing at non OHSAA program New Hope Christian. Bruning just started playing basketball a couple years ago and is making progress quickly. Bruning also played up on the 17 U level with a bunch of southeast Ohio guards who moved the ball quickly and had plenty of floor spacing. Bruning is a potential scholarship prospect and will have the chance to impress in front of college coaches next spring.
Hudson was a guy who caught my eye when he was throwing down some nasty dunks in warm-ups of Midwest Live action. Hudson is pretty raw as a prospect right now but his physical tools are incredibly eye-popping. Hudson is a guy who could make a big leap in the next 12 months and a name to monitor in the north central part of the state that sometimes gets overlooked.
King is another prospect who’s coming along well and will have a chance to take another step this winter for Chet Mason. I’ve always been impressed with the internal development of Brush players under Mason and think his player development skills are elite. If King puts in the work, he could wind up much higher in these rankings at the end. King has a good wing-span and naturally moves his feet well. Watch out for King on a Brush squad with a lot of talent this winter.
Whiteside is another prospect who makes his debut in the rankings from Nova’s 16 U UA Rise group. Jonathan is the younger brother of Joshua Whiteside, a multiple year starter for Gahanna. Jonathan is a little shorter but still has the impressive athleticism and switch-ability that Joshua had as well. I’ll be excited to see what Jonathan does for a new look Gahanna squad that graduated a ton of pieces.
Taylor is a high energy undersized power forward who makes it on this list for his motor and rebounding skills. Taylor also plays in a half-court system at Green that plays a half-court offense that relies on passing over dribbling, which helps their players translate to the college level and fit in with their new programs. I’m excited to see if Taylor can make a step offensively this year after Green graduates Zack Oddo from their district title squad.
