Conference Commentary
Top Ten in State: Minnehaha Academy
The Redhawks will be one of the deeper teams in Class AA basketball with the influx of guards Jerome Williams Jr Jerome Williams Jr 6'0" | PG Rock Creek Christian Academy | 2024 MD and Lorenzo Levy Lorenzo Levy 5'10" | PG Minnehaha Academy | 2024 State MN joining senior standouts Rolyns Aligbe Rolyns Aligbe 6'9" | C Minnehaha Academy | 2023 State MN and Leroy Barnes Leroy Barnes 6'1" | PG Minnehaha | 2023 State MN as well as younger standouts Mateo Cortes-Weiss Mateo Cortes-Weiss 6'4" | SF Minnehaha Academy | 2024 State MN and Fitta Jafar. The Hawks have the guard play, they have some size up front, they have wings, and they have a team that can make a serious Class AA title run
Top Ten in State Potential: Blake, Breck
Blake won 20 games last season and they did it with some young talent playing key roles. Blake has some size in the sophomore class that will get their chance plus good guards. Breck had a rough previous season but they have most of their talent back. With the young talent getting experience, a nice transfer, and experienced senior guards the talent there could lead to a good year.
Compete with Most: Providence Academy, St Paul Academy
Providence Academy was excellent last season and while graduation will hurt them, it won’t completely take them apart. With a couple starters back they will be solid while SPA could actually be better this season but not as high in the league standings, if that makes sense. They won 16 games last season and they could do that again.
Rebuilding: Mounds Park Academy
Mounds Park Academy only played two competitive games in this league last season. That will improve this year because they have a pair of solid junior guards. Still a rebuild but there is a chance for a nice step to be taken.
