Preseason Player of the Year: 2023 [player_tooltip player_id='956868' first='Pryce' last='Sandfort'] (Waukee Northwest)

The CIML is absolutely loaded with talent, but this POY selection is a no-brainer. The best player on what we expect will be the best team in 4A, Sandfort is a dominant two-way player who scores with remarkable efficiency from all three levels. The future Iowa Hawkeye wing is also a dominant defender who averaged nearly 3 blocks a game.

First Team

2023 [player_tooltip player_id='956868' first='Pryce' last='Sandfort'] (Waukee Northwest): 26.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, 2.9 blocks, 52.6 FG%, 40.5 3P%, 89.2 FT%

The most dominant two-way player in the state, Sandfort put up ridiculous numbers last season on both ends of the floor for a team that spent a majority of the season ranked within the top 3. With his size (6-7), length, IQ, and talent, he's an unstoppable offensive talent who looks primed to deliver one of the most impressive statistical senior years we've seen, especially when you take the level of competition he'll face into account.

2023 Omaha Biliew (Waukee)

After spending a year at Link Academy in Missouri, Biliew is back in Iowa and ready to help lead the Warriors to another state championship after being a key piece on their 2020-21 championship team. A top 10-15 national prospect who has committed to play his college ball at Iowa State, Biliew will be one of the most impactful defenders in the state, and his offensive game really took off during his year in Missouri. He should be a dominant two-way threat for Waukee, and the matchups between him and Sandfort will be a ton of fun to watch throughout the year.

2023 [player_tooltip player_id='956887' first='Cade' last='Kelderman'] (Waukee Northwest): 16.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.2 steals, 50.4 FG%, 43.4 3P%, 84.3 FT%

Kelderman enjoyed a breakout junior year for the Wolves, emerging as a dominant three-level scoring guard while also leading the team in assists. A physical lefty who uses his strength to power through contact for finishes at the rim, he and Sandfort will team up to be the most dynamic tandem in 4A basketball this season.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1381422' first='Curtis' last='Stinson Jr'] (Valley): 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 79.8 FT%

The son of former Iowa State standout guard Curtis Stinson, Junior had a very strong freshman year for the Tigers, showing his ability to impact the game at a high level on both ends of the floor. He's a big (6-4), physical lead guard who doesn't back down from anyone, and he's incredibly smart with a great feel for the game. He already holds an offer from Missouri, and following a number of big graduations from Valley, this is now his team.

2023 [player_tooltip player_id='1167719' first='Riley' last='Edwards'] (Southeast Polk): 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 80.0 FT%

A 6-3 wing with length, Edwards added nearly 10 points to his average from his sophomore to junior seasons, emerging as a dominant scoring threat for the Rams in the process. If he can regress to his sophomore shooting numbers, he could push to average 22-24 points a game for a Rams team that should be among the most improved in 4A this season.
