While we’ve seen quite a few of the guys registered in the past, there are quite a few that we have neither seen play live or only seen in limited situation. Here’s are a few guys we are looking forward to getting a good look at the Beaverton Hoop YMCA.
Gianni Altman (2023 Gold Beach)
Unfortunately we don’t get to see too much 2A action during the school year – much less any from the southwestern part of the state. So we’re excited to get a look at Altman, who impressed playing club ball with Elite 24 this past spring and summer. Based on what we’ve seen in highlights, the lanky lefty can really score the ball, has some hops, and plays the game with a lot of flash and flair.
Evan Heisler Evan Heisler 6'9" | C Lincoln | 2024 State OR (2024 Lincoln)
We saw bits and pieces of Heisler last season with Lincoln but it was largely during mop-up action. This off-season he got some valuable experience playing against high-level competition on the EYBL with the Rose City Rebels and also got more run playing with his high school team. There are some talented bigs at this year’s event and it will be intriguing to see how much Heisler’s game has developed.
Joey Banry Joey Banry 5'9" | PG North Eugene | 2024 State OR (2024 North Eugene)
Talking with Eugene-based scouts Jackson Naugle and Jason Patterson, they believe that Banry is the top junior in the area. He’s on the smaller side but is a pure point guard that is active and helps make the players around him better. Looking forward to see how he competes against some of the state’s best at the position.
Grant Olsen Grant Olsen 6'5" | SF Hermiston | 2024 State OR (2024 Hermison)
It’s not often we get to see players from the eastern part of the state – and even rarer with Hermiston because they play in the WIAA as opposed to the OSAA. We got a quick view of Olsen playing with the Oregon Prospects in the spring and liked his combination of 6-foot-5 size and ball skills.
Gylan Payne Gylan Payne 6'5" | CG Oregon City | 2025 State OR (2025 Oregon City)
In the spring we watched a Pioneers-based squad and saw a young guard hitting shots left and right. We sent a quick text to Oregon City head coach Aaron Newkirk and he informed us it was Payne. Looking forward to seeing how the young guard does in this particular setting.
Nate Stiffler Nate Stiffler 6'4" | SF Thurston | 2025 State OR (2025 Thurston)
We’ve seen a little bit of Stiffler at Oregon team camp and also at Lewis & Clark elite camp. He’s a good shooter at his 6-foot-5 size and it will be interesting to see how he fares against some of the top-level competition at the Beaverton Hoop.
Isaiah Koehnke (2025 Regis)
In the very last text message we received from the late James Johnson, he noted how Koehnke was a prospect to look out for. Out of respect to the former basketball coach/mentor and his scouting acumen, that’s enough for us to be watching the 5-foot-10 sophomore closely.
