Anthony was first team all NWC last year as a sophomore, being the only one. He also won the state tournament MVP last season as the Lions won their second state title in a row. His game has taken a big step over the summer playing for Seattle Rotary. His game looks more well rounded as he has improved on the aspects of his game that was needed. When I watch Anthony on the court, he plays very freely. He can score at all 3 levels and has one of the smoothest jumpers in the NWC. The Lions are always a top team in the state so he’s surrounded by talent that’s only going to benefit his game. With Coston Parcher Coston Parcher 6’0″ | PG Lynden | 2023 State WA running the offense, Anthony will excel off the ball and have plenty of open shots. He’s one of my early favorites for MVP in the NWC.
Tyler Sipma Tyler Sipma 6’0″ | CG Lynden Christian | 2023 State WA – 2023, Lynden Christian HS
Tyler was first team all NWC last year as a junior for the Lyncs, 1 of 3 non seniors on the team. The biggest thing to note is the departure of 2022 graduate Andrew Hommes, who won the NWC MVP last season. With Hommes off to play at Point Loma, Tyler will be the main scoring option. Over the summer watching Lynden Christian play, Tyler has very much proved he’s willing AND able to take on the role as the main scorer on the team. One thing that stands out with Sipma is his ability to facilitate the ball as well. He’s a fantastic game manager and his game has improved tremendously. His ball handling is some of the best in best in the state. He’s great in the pick and roll game and most importantly, isn’t afraid to attack the bucket no matter who’s in front of him. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lynden Christian has another NWC MVP on their hands.
Grant Kepley Grant Kepley 6’4″ | CG North Creek | 2023 State WA – 2023, Sehome HS
Grant was the final non senior to make the all NWC first team last season. Kepley had a fantastic year all around last year, proving he was one of the best within the conference. He has very good size for a guard, especially in the NWC. He has a beautiful lefty shot and his deep shot is very efficient so defenders can’t say on him. He can also attack the paint with authority, keeping his dribble extremely well. With Sehome hiring Western Washington coaching legend Brad Jackson, Kepley will benefit from the incredible basketball mind of Jackson. Sehome also has an overall very talented team, so teams won’t be able to focus on just Kepley this next season.
Quinn Swanson Quinn Swanson 6’2″ | SG Mount Vernon | 2024 State WA – 2024, Mount Vernon HS
Quinn was named all NWC second team last season as a sophomore. Swanson could easily be the best shooter in the NWC. He’s definitely a top 5 shooter as his release is so fast & efficient. When I watched him over the summer, he was sinking multiple threes every game, including ones from 4/5 feet beyond the line. His speed stands out on the court too, along with his ability to keep control of the ball while he’s running in transition and getting to the rim. Mount Vernon has added a new coach as well, last years NWC coach of the year Brett Farrar. Quinn’s supporting staff can play too, as 2023 DeVari Davis DeVari Davis 6’2″ | PG Mount Vernon | 2023 WA & 2025 Michael Johnson.
Mathew Storms Mathew Storms 6’3″ | SG Sehome | 2023 State WA – 2023, Sehome HS
Mathew was also named to the all NWC second team as a junior last season. Storms is one of my favorite players to watch on the court, purely for his confidence. You can tell from afar that Storms is confident in his ability on the court, which is an amazing asset to have. His lefty jumper is very smooth and is lethal from long range. The biggest thing that stands out in Mathew’s game is his quick first step. He can easily blow by any defender with ease, getting to the paint and either dropping the pass to the big man down low or hit a floater. As I mentioned with Kepley, the Sehome supporting staff is very good and that helps Storms in getting more open shots & being able to rely on his teammates. The Mariners should have a great season next year with Kepley & Storms.
