Expert Analysis
Devin Record | Prep Hoops Scout
Mathew is one of the main pieces for one of the most talented squads in the 2A classification. He lets the game come to him and doesn’t force much. He attacks the rim nice and has a solid pull up jump shot. He plays off the ball well, being able to move to get open nicely. He is a great leader on the court too, always encouraging teammates.

How do you think your off-season went? What are you most looking forward to this season?rn-I’ve had the most productive off-season of my playing career so far. I put on 15 pounds from 170 to 185, and my skill work has been the most dialed in it has ever been. I’ve taken the biggest leap in my game that I have experienced yet, so that should be exiting. In terms of what I look forward to i’m honestly just exited to get closer with my guys, looking past basketball our team has a special bond with each other, we’re a big family and that has been the most securing privilege to have on this team. At this point before season, I’m not even worried about winning or losing, the season will play out how it is supposed to but my team is much bigger than basketball.
What are some things that stand out about your game? Things that coaches can see and know you excel atrn-I think my quickness and my ability to score at all 3 levels is my biggest strength, while also being a really good defender 1-5. But I think when coaches watch me play they just see a dude who works extremely hard, and knows how to win games, I pride myself on doing the little things that I think make a difference for a team in a competitive game.
What are you looking for in a school beyond HS?rn-Beyond high school I’m just look for the right environment that suits me, and will push me to become a better student, athlete, and person in general.
Have you been in contact with any coaches/schools? If so, what schools?
-I have been in contact with a lot of D3 schools and naia schools over the summer. Western Washington is recruiting me right now and I think that is where I will end up.
What do you want to improve on most in your game before playing at the next level?rn-I want to improve on my playmaking ability first and foremost, I’m always going to be sharpening my handle and shot but I want the game to really slow down for me, and I want to be able to win games by making my teammates better instead of just executing my job only.

Mat is a left handed combo-guard who’s potential is through the roof. He hits the deep shot well, having a smooth lefty shot. He attacks the rim hard while being able to finish at the rim athletically, with either hand too. He creates his shot well and creates shots for his teammates extremely well too. He’s going to have a big breakout year.

He’s probably the best three point shooter on the team. He’s got a nice lefty stroke and can fill it up in a hurry. He’s also probably the quickest with the dribble of the three. He and Kepley are interchangeable and both can bring the ball up. Making them a grab and go team, since Garrison can also get it and go. They will provide a tough match-up on the perimeter for other teams with their size and versatility.

Mathew Storms Mathew Storms 6'3" | SG Sehome | 2023 State WA – 2023, Sehome HS
Mathew was also named to the all NWC second team as a junior last season. Storms is one of my favorite players to watch on the court, purely for his confidence. You can tell from afar that Storms is confident in his ability on the court, which is an amazing asset to have. His lefty jumper is very smooth and is lethal from long range. The biggest thing that stands out in Mathew’s game is his quick first step. He can easily blow by any defender with ease, getting to the paint and either dropping the pass to the big man down low or hit a floater. As I mentioned with Kepley, the Sehome supporting staff is very good and that helps Storms in getting more open shots & being able to rely on his teammates. The Mariners should have a great season next year with Kepley & Storms.
