The Las Vegas Big Time hosted by recruiting legend Gary Charles features teams from around the country and is a staple of The Summer Grassroots Basketball Season. The tournament, which runs from Wednesday, July 20th, until Sunday, July 24th, featured pool play on Thursday and Friday, with bracket play beginning on Saturday and a Champion crowned on Sunday. I got to see several talented young players. Here’s a look at my 2025 Evals.
Mateo Trujillo 5’11 PG LA Elite – Saw Trujillo for the second weekend in a row. His shooting ability checked out, however, he impressed me with his ability to do other things like drive to the rim and make plays for teammates.
EJ Spillman 6’3 SG LA Elite – The more I see of Spillman the more I like him. He has a unique frame but possesses legit point guard skills. His wiggle, allows him to separate from defenders and this IQ allows him to find teammates with dimes.
David Metu 6’3 PF Gamepoint – I like big body bangers with good feet. Metu is exactly that and he showed some faceup game as well. He was able to rebound and score around the basket. A talented undersized power forward, Metu will be beginning his second year at powerhouse Centennial.
Lonnie Bass Jr Lonnie Bass Jr 6'8" | PF Mater East | 2025 State NV 6’7 PF Progress Feels Best – I mentioned Bass as one of my Saturday standouts and his performance still sticks with me. I’m now looking at a player that has improved every part of his skill set while turning himself into one of the most dominant rebounders in the state.
Elijah Mack 5’9 PG Miners – Mack stands out to me every time I see him. The jitterbug PG was at it again in Vegas, playing his scrappy brand of basketball. He defended, was first to the ball, and managed to score on drives and jumpers.
Latavious Morris 5’8 PG ABC Spotlight – Morris is a dynamic scorer who possesses a combination of shooting and breakdown skills. He played with a grit and toughness that reminds you why he’s one of the best football players in New Mexico as well. His play was brilliant and made even more impressive that he was doing it in the 17U bracket.
Trenton Pane Trenton Pane 6'0" | PG Allen | 2025 State TX 5’10 PG Crab5 (featured image) – Pane made me stop. I wasn’t even watching his game, yet his jaw-dropping athleticism caught my attention. He was dynamic, showing the ability to knock down shots from the outside as well as finish in transition.
