Jayson Walker St. Vincent-St. Mary (Team Premier)
Walker brings lethal speed to the floor when he runs the point for a scrappy Team Premier. Walker is such an explosive guard with exceptionally quick feet and pace. Can quickly breakdown his defender and blow by whoever. His size and defensive consistency are concerns, but his ability to run an offense and especially create for himself should at least target some D3 looks this AAU season.
Colin White Colin White 6'5" | SG Ottawa Glandorf | 2024 State #156 Nation OH Ottawa-Glandorf (Ohio Buckets-Garcia)
White continues to put on a clinic wherever he goes in AAU. The 6-foot-5 guard is a straight bucket getter and shown both in high school and AAU he has versatility scoring the ball. White can create for himself with the bigger size or increased arsenal while also having the basketball IQ to show unselfishness and distribution traits. Overall just has a smooth style of play. It’s not surprise multiple D1s have expressed interest in White so far.
Landon Brewer Landon Brewer 6'5" | SG Antwerp | 2024 State OH Antwerp (NW Ohio)
One of the perks of being an AAU coach in this event was getting to coach against some good players. Brewer was one of them. Only about 2 months out from his breakout performance in the D-IV State Semifinals, Brewer created problems with NW Ohio. The lefty has a longer frame for a guard at 6-foot-3 and showed patience and control with his shot selection. Specifically, Brewer was lethal in the midrange with his pullup jumper. Low D2 or NAIA programs should keep an eye on Brewer, especially if he grows any further.
Brooks Laukhaf Wayne Trace (NW Ohio)
Laukhaf arguably had one of the better shooting performances throughout the weekend. Once he gets going from beyond the arc, it is difficult to get him out of a groove. Laukhaf has everything looking for in a shooter. Consistency, good footwork and set, follow through and mechanics. I would like to see him have the same effect more in dribble drive situations, but nonetheless still a solid prospect for D3s looking to add a pure shooter.
Braylin Wells Braylin Wells 6'7" | C Pickerington Central | 2024 State OH Buchtel (Nova Village-UA Rise)
Nova is typically known for pulling Columbus area prospects, but Wells is the exception coming down from Akron. Wells brings a lot of bounce and athleticism for Nova especially on the offensive glass. Seemingly automatic when it comes to chasing down boards. While he has size to go with his previously described skillset, Wells did seem a little raw in other areas of his game. This makes me believe he could be a special prospect with growth opportunities going into the rest of Summer.
Michael Walker St. Francis DeSales (Nova Village-UA Rise)
Walker impressed against a talented Bates Fundamentals group during Sunday’s bracket play. Walker brings shooting flare as he was impressive knocking down transition 3’s off the catch. In a half court setting, his ball control and vision allowed him to succeed in the pick-and-roll with his big. Fundamentals seem good, but his shot itself appeared rushed and not as smooth as other guys. The shots go in so it isn’t a major red flag.
Cal Klinzing Strongsville (MAC Basketball)
Klinzing might have been the top new name prospect I saw after a strong performance against Midwest Basketball Club-Gold in bracket play. The 6-foot-5 product of Strongsville played with a high motor and brought a lot of physical toughness to the floor. On the offensive end, Klinzing was one of the better offensive rebounders I watched as his size, motor, and physicality allowed him to create problems on box outs. Klinzing gets his shoulders squared and utilizes his body around the rim. I really like his upside although I need to see more of his game especially on the defensive end to see how well he can defend his position.
Tyler McKinley Tyler McKinley 6'9" | PF Winton Woods | 2024 State #78 Nation OH Walnut Hills (All Ohio-Red)
McKinley entered the event as Ohio’s top 2024 prospect and for good reason. McKinley has plenty of versatility for a 6-foot-9 Center. Physically has the body for a HM big man, but impressed me with his ball-handling on the perimeter and rim attacking in 2-3 dribbles. Has just enough quickness to beat defenders on the block and finish both over his shoulder or through contact. I would like to see McKinley’s post moves be a little smoother and quicker since he likely will be more on the block at the next level, but there is no denying he has Top 50 talent nationally.
Mason Shrout Mason Shrout 6'4" | SF Preble Shawnee | 2024 State OH Preble Shawnee (All Ohio-Red)
Shrout was the go-to guy for AOR once teammate Tyler McKinley Tyler McKinley 6'9" | PF Winton Woods | 2024 State #78 Nation OH went down with an injury Sunday. The 6-foot-4 guard brings really good size for his position and experience scoring the basketball in a variety of ways. While Shrout had some big moments against REACH Legends, I found his playmaking for teammates to be more impressive. Showed more willingness to make the extra pass and put the ball in other guys’ hands. I still felt at times he forced some shots down the stretch, but some of this stems from him being the top guy with Preble Shawnee. Shrout still is on track to be a LM target and should be known across the Region.
Jeb Bischoff Jeb Bischoff 6'0" | SG Hilliard Bradley | 2024 State OH Hilliard Bradley ( Mid Ohio Pumas -Gold)
Bischoff played almost exactly what you expect from an athlete from Hilliard Bradley. A very collected and fundamentally sound guard, Bischoff was so impressive with his ability to be impactful in pick-and-roll. Consistently found the roll man, even on heavier hedges. Bischoff plays hard and plays with a little extra energy. He comes from a school known recently for producing Mid Major level guards. While I don’t think Bischoff currently is a MM prospect, I do think he is a scholarship athlete worth tracking.
