The Adidas MDC took place this weekend in Cartersville and played host to an array of talented teams coming from all over the country. Here, I’ll be highlighting some of the standouts in the 17u division that helped improve their stock this weekend.

2023 6’2 PG [player_tooltip player_id="598781" first="David" last="Thomas"] - Atlanta Celtics

Thomas looked like a college-ready guard this weekend. He was extremely poised with ball and showed a great feel for the game. He’s got a strong build that allows him to use his body in the paint to create space to get his shot off. Thomas has a smooth stroke from deep and showed the ability to hit from mid-range consistently. He’s already received a handful of offers but I expect that number to increase in the coming months.

2023 6’8 F [player_tooltip player_id="1223231" first="Amir" last="Boyce"] - PSB Atlanta

I think Boyce has been one of this spring’s biggest stock risers. His game was on full display this weekend, knocking down threes, scoring tough buckets inside, and setting up his teammates for open looks. Boyce is an imposing force inside with his size and strength. He controls the paint defensively, contesting everything near the rim and fighting hard for rebounds. His recruitment should pick up drastically this summer.

2023 6’5 F [player_tooltip player_id="1204747" first="Shamarrie" last="Hugie"] - Georgia Ignites

Hugie is a long, gifted athlete with limitless potential. He runs the court extremely well, getting a lot of dunks and easy buckets in transition. In the half-court, Hugie was aggressive this weekend attacking the rim. He doesn’t shy away from contact and he plays above the rim. Shammarie Hugie could be one of the bigger sleepers in this 2023 class.

2023 6’2 G [player_tooltip player_id="1444755" first="Jay" last="Boyd"] - Wood Elite

Boyd is a do-it-all guard that garnered lots of attention over the weekend. He’s got a beautiful jumper that he can hit off the catch or the dribble. He can score at all three levels and can score in bunches. Boyd has sneaky bounce too. In a split-second, he can turn what you’d expect to be a contested layup into a highlight dunk. Boyd is a gifted scorer that could be a steal for a lucky college program.

2023 6’0 PG [player_tooltip player_id="1223230" first="Bilal" last="Abdur-Rahman"] - Team Huncho

Abdul-Rahman is quick, twitchy guard that controls the pace of the game for Team Huncho. He’s dangerous when he gets downhill in transition and finds his teammates well on the fast break. Defensively, Abdur-Rahman has quick feet and is hard to beat off the dribble. He’s got active hands and was getting steals and tipped-balls all weekend.
