Continue ReadingLast weekend in Fort Wayne we saw a LOT of prospects. We’ve already broken down a lot about the 2023 class playing 17 U because those players are the closest to getting to college. Now we’ll focus on the 2024 and 2025 classes these next few days as we head into next week.
Colin White Colin White 6'5" | SG Ottawa Glandorf | 2024 State #156 Nation OH , 6’4 SG Ottawa Glandorf 2024 – Ohio Buckets Garcia: White continues to establish himself as one of the premier prospects in the 2024 class. After leading Ottawa Glandorf to the state title game as a Sophomore, White was dominant in Fort Wayne before an injury caused him to miss his team’s final game. White is a great two-foot leaper, throwing down some impressive dunks in the half-court. I also was impressed by White’s outside shooting, it’s still inconsistent but seems to be improving gradually. White should be on all MAC radars and should be at least seen by high major programs as well.
Wendell Henry Wendell Henry 6'5" | PF St. Edward - Lakewood, OH | 2024 State OH , 6’6 PF St Edward 2024 – Bates Fundamentals 16 U: Henry does a lot of the little things that contribute to winning but aren’t sexy. After getting some valuable varsity experience for St Edward, Henry looks to continue to establish himself as a promising forward prospect this spring and summer. I was impressed with Henry’s ability to box out and pass the ball out of the post. Henry also finished a couple layups in the paint to help Bates break away from a pesky Marshall Warriors squad.
Justin Belcher Justin Belcher 5'11" | PG University School | 2024 State OH , 6’0 CG University School 2024 – Marshall Warriors 16 U: Belcher came out firing for Marshall Warriors against Bates Fundamentals with eight early points including two 3-pointers and a floater. Belcher has a quick release and is dangerous off the bounce with the step-back jumper. Belcher shared play-making duties with Brian Sullivan Jr Brian Sullivan Jr 6'2" | CG St Edward | 2024 State OH , who will be featured in a new names article later on in the week, but right now I’m not sure if Belcher’s best position is at the point or off ball. Regardless, Belcher is a great shooter and should have some more big scoring games this Spring.
Kenyon Giles Kenyon Giles 6'0" | CG Maple Heights | 2024 State OH , 6’0 CG Rhodes 2024- Ohio Rebels 16 U: Giles and the Ohio Rebels really stood out all weekend at Fort Wayne, with some dominant wins over shoe circuit squads. Giles was one of many top performers from this squad as the lefty guard did a great job of attacking downhill in the half-court as defenders struggled to stay in front of him. Giles also is a volume shooter from the outside who can get hot in a hurry when shots are falling. I really like the mixture of 2024 and 2025 prospects on this Ohio Rebels squad who are not afraid of anybody.
Hosea Steele Hosea Steele 6'4" | SF Richmond Heights | 2024 State OH , 6’3 SF Cleveland Heights – Ohio Rebels 16 U: Steele’s motor never stops, and his downhill attacking style helped lead the Ohio Rebels past Midwest Basketball Club 3 SSB 16 U in an impressive team performance. Steele is a capable finisher at the rim with both hands and really thrives in transition. I’d like to see more perimeter-based production out of Steele in the future, but his motor, quickness and finishing ability are an intriguing package of skills.
Landon Brewer Landon Brewer 6'5" | SG Antwerp | 2024 State OH , 6’3 SF Antwerp 2024 – NW Ohio 16 U: Brewer is a prospect who initially came onto my radar at the Prep Hoops 250 Expo back in the Fall. Since then, I was impressed with his play for Antwerp during the high school season and he continues to produce for NW Ohio 16 U this weekend. The lefty Brewer is a patient attacker who relies on his size and jump-stops to score in the paint. Brewer is also dangerous from the outside if left alone because he can make open outside shots. If Brewer continues this level of play, I expect scholarship programs to get involved next summer.
Jonathan Powell Jonathan Powell 6'5" | SG Centerville | 2024 State #164 Nation OH , 6’5 SG Chaminade Juliene 2024 – Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB 16 U: Powell showcased his impressive scoring in a variety of ways for Midwest Basketball Club this weekend. Powell is a dangerous shooter from downtown and has the size to pull-up over smaller defenders whenever he wants to. Powell also handled the ball a majority of the time for his team, showcasing his advanced ball-handling skills for a prospect of his size.
