Today, I will highlight my picks for Palm Beach County. Some of the best teams and longevity into the postseason influenced my selections. Lake Worth highlighted the area’s run with a spot in the 7A final four. Other top teams included Wellington (22 wins), Dwyer (21 wins), Palm Beach Central (21 wins), and Forest Hill (20 wins).
Let’s look into it…
MVP: Calvin Sirmans – Lake Worth
2023 Calvin Sirmans was a catalyst behind the Trojans 21-4 overall record and spot in the 7A state semifinals. The 5-foot-8 point guard averaged 17.1 points, 5.4 assists, three rebounds and 2.8 steals per game. In addition, Sirmans went 35-of-92 (38 percent) from 3-point range. He finished in double-figures in 23 of 24 games and scored a season-high 31 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the field against Forest Hill. Against powerhouse Miami Columbus, Sirmans had a team-high 19 points and hit four 3-pointers while adding four steals. This kid is an electric, three-level scorer with another season to go.
Kyle McNeal Kyle McNeal 6'1" | PG Dwyer | 2023 #297 Nation FL – Dwyer
2023 Kyle McNeal Kyle McNeal 6'1" | PG Dwyer | 2023 #297 Nation FL is one of the best athletes in Palm Beach County and throughout South Florida. The 6-foot-3 guard helped Dwyer to a 21-4 overall record while averaging a team-best 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. McNeal scored in double-figures in 21 of 24 games and dropped a season-high 25 points and 13 boards against Coral Springs. In one matchup against Martin County, McNeal had 22 points, 12 boards and four blocks. This kid can really fly and finish above the rim. McNeal holds a football offer from Florida Atlantic.
Gavin Aydelotte Gavin Aydelotte 6'11" | C Benjamin | 2023 State FL – Benjamin
2023 Gavin Aydelotte Gavin Aydelotte 6'11" | C Benjamin | 2023 State FL did damage for the Benjamin Buccaneers. The 6-foot-11, 235-pound center averaged 16.7 points and 7.8 boards per game while shooting 55 percent from the field. Moreover, Aydelotte blocked 35 shots (1.7 bpg). He had six double-doubles and scored a season-high 31 points and 13 rebounds against Jensen Beach. Aydelotte also scored 25 points and collected 11 boards while shooting 10-of-20 from the floor against North Broward Prep. He is a prospect with high upside in South Florida.
Ian Smikle Ian Smikle 6'9" | C Suncoast | 2024 State FL – Suncoast
2024 Ian Smikle Ian Smikle 6'9" | C Suncoast | 2024 State FL had a big season for the Chargers. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 12.9 points, 12.2 boards and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 57 percent from the field. Smikle’s scoring and rebounding essentially doubled from his freshman season. He had 17 double-doubles and scored a season-high 23 points against Bradenton Southeast. He also grabbed 13 or more boards in 11 contests. Both 2024 Stone Bureau Stone Bureau 6'0" | PG Calvary Christian Academy, Ft. Lauderdale | 2024 State FL and 2023 Nate Sasser Nate Sasser 6'6" | SG Suncoast | 2023 State #207 Nation FL were strong considerations here, but I liked Smikle’s frontcourt dominance over the course of the season. The Suncoast program has a bright future with these three in the mix.
Marvin Golf – Lake Worth
2023 Marvin Golf was another reason why the Trojans were one of the best teams in Palm Beach County. The 6-foot-4 forward averaged 14.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent from the field. Golf scored a season-high 32 points while grabbing 10 boards and five assists against Forest Hill. Against Park Vista, Golf had a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and ten assists. He also had nine double-doubles. I’m interested to see Golf and Sirmans make another run at Lakeland next season.
Others considered:
Michael Cooper – Forest Hill (19.7 ppg)
Marouf Moumine – Cardinal Newman (17.7 ppg)
Brenden Williams – Wellington (15.6 ppg)
