has all the tools to have a successful career at the next level. He’s improved his conditioning once again, allowing him to run the run and improve his mobility. He’s strong in the post and has the footwork to shake defenders on the block. He’s a physical rebounder, a good inside scorer with both hands, and uses his size to clog the paint.

Ian Smikle, A 6-9 senior power forward and recent University of Tulsa commit is athletic and provides a ton of length for his size. Smikle can finish above the rim as well as build confidence in a perimeter shot on the offensive end. On the defensive end, Smikle is very versatile where he can guard positions 1 through 4 with his length and strength to get out on the perimeter. He also does a great job at challenging shots for the opposition and gets timely rebounds getting the basketball out in the open floor.

Ian Smikle, A 6-8 center with a ton of length and plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor where he finishes efficiently around the rim on both sides. Smikle is a highly-talented prospect who can play multiple positions as he has continued to improve his confidence shooting from the outside on the offensive end of the floor. On the defensive end, Smikle has emerged as one of the top rim protectors in the senior class using his long reach to dominate on the glass. Look for Smikle to have an emerging senior season as college coaches have drawn interest in him.

Ian Smikle, A 6-9 senior center with a big frame and plays a traditional back-to-the-basket as well as create his own shot off the bounce and catch. He is a big threat on the glass at both ends of the floor where he can score at the front of the rim off put-backs as well as a lob threat. Since the start of his junior season, Smikle has also expanded his range and has started to feel more comfortable shooting from the outside. He is also unafraid to finish on the attack against smaller guards.

While Suncoast’s Big 3 struggled a bit in the two games I watched, Smikle stood out as the most consistent and effective. Standing at 6-8 with a large frame, Smikle was able to catch the ball against smaller defenders and turn to get easy baskets. He is unafraid to throw his weight around on offense, and has improved his footwork around the basket. On defense, his size and IQ pushed defenders outside the paint and forced Viera to take tougher shots. With his improved footwork, awareness and build, Smikle looks like he could swing it at a competitive Division 1 program. Coaches who haven’t already looked into Smikle should start now.
