The 5A playoffs had some close games, and unfortunately, these players’ seasons came to an end. But that is not without them putting up a fight. Here are some standouts, even in defeat.
Garrett Myers — Monarch
Myers is not a player that we have written about before, but he made sure we put some eyes on him in his game against a talented and scrappy Fossil Ridge squad. Against one of the better defensive teams in the state the senior guard was able to put up 17 points. He hit 2 3-pointers and was scoring despite them sending doubles and putting more attention on him. He was forcing the issue and trying to make things happen and that is the way to go out.
Ty Afraimi — Columbine
Ty is a junior with a bright future and he is a scoring option that also play makes. He is great with the ball in his hands, can score in is situations and also plays within the flow of the offense. He finished with 13 points in Columbine’s loss as he went 4-4 from the FT line to show that he was trying to make things happen. He had 6 rebounds and two assists against Douglas County which is a tough guard matchup for anyone. Now that he is on our radar, it is time for him to build on the season and continue to turn heads.
Hank Gorzlanski — Heritage
Hank is a ready scorer that brought it this entire year. He put up 15.8 points a game as a microwave scoring option and that continued in the playoffs. Hank had 15 points in the final game of the year as he hit 3 3-pointers in the game. He was looking to score when open and also took a few tough shots to keep the defense guessing. Stellar season for him.
Trujillo is only a sophomore that averaged 6.8 points a game in his second year but saved his best for last. Trujillo had a career-best 15 points in the game and went out with a bang. He scored, let the game come to him and knocked down shots when it came his way. He will only build on these kinds of games and will use it for a headstart to his summer.
Bryce Spradling — Legacy
Bryce is a 6’3 wing that averaged 8.7 points a game on the season but had a career-best 24 points in their defeat and rematch against Horizon. Bryce was efficient from the field (9-13) and when Horizon started sending double teams he finished through those. He got to the FT line and had six rebounds as well. He had 2 steals and 2 blocks in the game and the junior, lept it close against a good Horizon squad,
