Continue ReadingThe jump up to 6A from a lower level can be daunting for many, but for Payton Meyers Payton Meyers 6'6" | CG Canby | 2022 State OR the move has been seamless. The lanky 6-foot-6, 170-pound knew what it would take going to Canby from North Marion, and the results have been clear. Meyers has not only started from day one for the Cougars but has starred while helping the team win games and qualify for the post-season.
“It’s been an awesome experience and the competition has been amazing, just like I knew it would be,” Meyers said. “Practice, the whole summer I prepared for it.”
A long and rangy athlete, Meyers has the ability to finish at the rim while also get hot from the outside with his perimeter shooting. With his height and abilities on the wing, he’s been a tough matchup for opponents and he’s become one of the 6A’s top scorers at just over 19 points per game.
“I’ve gotten a lot quicker, I’ve gotten more athletic, and I’ve been able to shoot the ball at a really high level and attack the basket,” Meyers said. “I feel like I’ve gotten the whole package going.”
Partially because of the transfer, Meyers was a bit unknown going into the season. He notes that he’s received some small school interest but is hoping that more college coaches will be calling in the not too distant future. “I feel like after the season a lot more schools will be reaching out,” Meyers said. “I’m just keeping it open.”
Canby is in a good spot going into the post-season and has an outside chance at getting to host a first round playoff game. Meyers feels confident the Cougars will make some noise.
“It took us a little bit to get our team chemistry but we’re all best friends and we’re all buying in,” Meyers said. “I think we’re going to be a dangerous team. I feel like we’ll go into the post-season and our goal is to get to the Chiles Center.”
Meyers currently ranks as the #60 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
