Lexington Christian hosted their Bluegrass Orthopedics Classic this past Saturday and I was able to catch a couple of games. Here are the top performers of the games I saw.

Sayre vs East Jessamine:

I was not in the building for this one but according to the KHSAA stats, Sayre rolled to a 71-48 win and were led by 27 from Zander Collett while Graham Johnson and [player_tooltip player_id="1088853" first="Davis" last="Miller"] also chipped in double figures. East Jessamine’s Isaiah Daniel led them with 15.

Greenwood vs Scott County:

I didn’t see enough of this one to give a report but the Gators beat the Cardinals 74-62 behind 19 points and 7 rebounds from [player_tooltip player_id="926895" first="Cade" last="Stinnett"]. [player_tooltip player_id="1289001" first="Aaron" last="Brown"] and Hunter Raymer also scored in double figures. Scott County did not report stats for the game.

Walton Verona vs Lexington Christian Academy:

The Bearcats knocked off the host team after a huge run to start the game and ultimately get up by 20 and staying up the rest of the game. LCA cut the lead to 7 multiple times but never got over the hump. WV was led by [player_tooltip player_id="1009764" first="Brant" last="Smithers"] with 30 points (most in the first half). Brant shot 5/10 from deep and 5/5 at the line to keep his reputation as one of the best shooters in the state. Fellow Senior [player_tooltip player_id="1199893" first="Cam" last="Christy"] had 12 points and 8 rebounds and played a solid all around game.

LCA made a big comeback behind their freshmen as [player_tooltip player_id="1130312" first="Andersen" last="Green"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1342689" first="Hagan" last="Preston"] helped fuel a run that eventually ran out of gas and came up short. Junior Tyler Hall had a team high 17 points and showed he can score at all 3 levels. Senior Jack Preston kicked in 7 points and 9 rebounds and was part of the big LCA run in the late third and early fourth quarters.

Woodford County vs Madison Southern:

Woodford was missing [player_tooltip player_id="1118821" first="John" last="McCrear"] and [player_tooltip player_id="801592" first="Jackson" last="Twombly"] as they await KHSAA approval on their transfers but they didn’t miss them as they got out to an early lead against Madison Southern and held the lead for the majority of the game. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="1110315" first="Jasper" last="Johnson"] provided a spark off the bench in a limited role while Santonio Waide provided playmaking and was able to penetrate the Eagle zone and kick for open shots.

Sophomore wing [player_tooltip player_id="1126557" first="Jay" last="Rose"] got off to a hot start for Southern but as the Woodford defense keyed on him, he wore down as the game went along. Junior [player_tooltip player_id="1208173" first="Brett" last="Erslan"] ended up leading the team in scoring with 15 points and added 5 rebounds. Erslan plays with a mean streak and is not afraid to mix it up with anyone. As the season rolls along, Coach Newton will need some other guys to step up and help carry the scoring load.
