On November 30th i took in a battle of potential playoff teams with Liberty and Valley Vista.

Valley Vista came out strong with a smothering defense that gave Liberty problems most of the 1st half. Senior wing [player_tooltip player_id="1121053" first="Dwayne" last="Porter"] made his impact on the game out the gate with multiple blocks and two crowd pleasing dunks on the way to getting Valley Vista a 18-16 lead after one period.

Liberty struggled to get their shots to drop early, but that didn’t stop them from putting up shots at a quick pace. The lead felt bigger than 2 points after the first quarter. Porter suffered a knee injury in the 2nd quarter but junior 6’2 wing Dallas Marker caught fire from 3 and [player_tooltip player_id="814521" first="Aadem" last="Isai"] played his normal under control effective game in helping Valley Vista establish a 43-42 halftime lead.

Midway through the 3rd quarter junior wing [player_tooltip player_id="814037" first="Ky" last="Green"] went on his own 9-0 run by hitting deep 3’s on three consecutive trips down court. Junior 6’0 G Trevor Owens made some tough shots which helped Liberty establish a 67-61 lead.

Going into the 4th quarter it seemed as if the pace of the game was getting to the younger players Valley Vista had coming off the bench partly due to Porter’s injury. He tried to play through it but you could tell he couldn’t completely put pressure on it.

Isai hit some clutch shots that got the Monsoon within 4 points with 1:37 left in the game. With the score being 84-80 junior forward [player_tooltip player_id="1216984" first="Caden" last="Hunter"] went on his own 6-0 run by making some tough inside buckets and key free throws. With the score now 90-80 with less than a minute left the Liberty Lions seemed to have the game in hand.

When the buzzer sounded, it was 95-83 Liberty.

These are two of the better teams in the West Valley and the AIA. We will be seeing these two teams come playoff time.
