I was able to see a bunch of them in action at Drive Nation in Irving, TX and will be highlighting standout prospects from the event throughout the week.
With that in mind, here are seven of the best shooters from the 17U division:
Jack Savario | 2022 | 6’0” Shooting Guard | Hustle Hard Elite 2022 | Episcopal HS – Savario stepped up when his teammates needed him on Friday in a late-game scenario. The Episcopal guard caught fire and drained three consecutive triples in the closing minutes of action, providing a huge momentum shift in favor of his team. He never looked panicked, but instead got his shoots off in rhythm. His clutch shooting was the difference in Hustle Hard Elites’ opening matchup of the weekend, earning them an eight-point victory.
Evan Porto | 2022 | 6’3” Point Guard | Fundamental U 2022 Grey | Stevenson HS – Porto closed out the weekend with a strong performance on Sunday, scoring 20 points and knocking down four threes. He did a fabulous job of getting himself squared up before releasing his shots. Defenders were forced to respect his three-point shooting after his hot start to the game which benefited him when attacking closeouts off the dribble, allowing him to be an all-around scoring threat.
Dariyus Woodson | 2022 | 6’7” Small Forward | TJ Ford Basketball 2022 | Goose Creek Memorial HS – Woodson’s combination of size and skill turned heads at the PH Exclusive. He scored in double figures in all four of his games and eclipsed 20 points in two of those contests. The lefty’s shooting was a big part of that. He displayed the ability to hit threes from the catch and off the bounce, and hunted for his shots without dominating the ball. The soon-to-be senior continuously exploited mismatches on the perimeter, making him one of the toughest guys to matchup with this weekend.
Nate Borchardt | 2022 | 6’1” Combo Guard | Nike ProSkills Austin Red | Lampasas HS – Borchardt can light it up from both mid-range and behind the arc with his sweet shooting stroke. I love the calmness he plays with. The Lampasas guard was responsible for a 24-point outing on Friday, drilling five threes in the process. He can hurt you by spotting up for three or with his stop-and-pop game from closer to the basket. He has been a stock riser recently and will be looking to build upon his excellent July performances.
Joey Bilello | 2022 | 6’8” Small Forward/Power Forward | PSB Denver 2022 | ThunderRidge HS – Bilello’s weekend was highlighted by a 20-point outing with six three-pointers in his final game of the tournament. He is a terrific catch-and-shoot guy from distance. His height also allowed him make some tough turnaround jumpers in the post. The 6-foot-8-inch forward spaces the floor with his touch from the outside but can also do some damage down low, making him a nightmare for opposing teams to defend.
Trajan Lewis | 2022 | 6’5” Small Forward | Forth Worth Crush 2022 | Weatherford Christian HS – Lewis was great about getting to his spots and converting on Friday. The Weatherford Christian wing displayed that he can consistently hit pull-up jump shots from the foul line, as well as knock down spot up threes. Furthermore, it was his timely shot-making that stood out the most. He always seemed to be able to get a bucket when his squad was in desperate need of some points.
Tamarrien Thorpe | 2022 | 6’1” Combo Guard | Florida Express 2022 | Stranahan HS – Thorpe is a confident shooter with deep range. He buried multiple shots from the NBA line on Saturday and looked good doing so. This is one of those guys that will kill opponents if they don’t get up into him as soon as he crosses half-court. The Stranahan guard looked comfortable shooting from the catch, and is capable of making a three after a few rhythm dribbles too.
