I saw games from players in 6 different states throughout the weekend, so in the sixth article of my new series, we look at the 2024 standout guards from the state of Kentucky for the Grit Region Memorial Classic in Columbus. Let’s get started.
Donovan Ambrocio – 5’11” SF – Kentucky Defenders (Boone County)
Ambrocio is another smaller forward who plays mostly in the post. He is a good finisher inside and seals off well in the post. He also runs the floor pretty well for a post guy. If he can grow a little bit in the coming year, he should be a fun post player in the future.
Cam Giesler – 5’8″ PG – Midwest Basketball Club Gold (Newport Central Catholic)
Giesler is a smaller little point guard who really ran the offense quite well. He is a good passer and reads the floor pretty well. He also has really good body control around the rim and finished a nice finger roll. Overall, it was a solid performance from Giesler in this one.
Jeremiah Godfrey – 6’5″ SF – Overtime Performance-2 (Great Crossing)
Godfrey was a powerful player in the post who used his athleticism to make plays inside. He is aggressive on the glass, and he uses his size to clear space in the paint. He also can jump out of the gym which allows him to protect the rim quite well. Despite the fact that his team struggled, Godfrey looked pretty good for OTP,
Jase Iles – 6’0″ SG – Midwest Basketball Club Gold (Newport Central Catholic)
Iles is a smaller wing who fights for absolutely everything. He fights on the offensive glass and can finish it well inside. Overall, it was a good 13 point performance for Iles with most of them coming off of offensive rebounds.
Carter McClanahan Carter McClanahan 6'0" | PG Mason County | 2024 State KY – 6’0″ SG – Kentucky Defenders (Mason County)
McClanahan is another one of many good shooters on this Kentucky Defenders squad. He knocked down two triples in this one and had a really good-looking shot stroke. He also has pretty good vision and saw the floor well. Overall, a solid performance from the guard.
Brayden Moeves – 5’10” SG – Kentucky Defenders (Lands)
Moeves was one of the better scorers of the weekend. The shooting guard is a knock-down shooter with a great stroke from the outside. He is also incredibly smooth around the rim and knows how to finish through contact. Moeves also hit a little floater and a nice up and under in the lane.
