Typically, we will have already started with some tournaments at this time of the year to get things kicked off, but there has to be a compromise on both ends. Not only will the season start late, but it will be a condensed season, so teams and players must get off to hot starts. We will focus on the 5A/4A South Central League, the league full of Pueblo Teams, a battle night in and night out.
Steven Hemphill – Pueblo Central
Hemphill was the teams leading scorer in his junior season and put his team in positions to win often. Hemphill is a reliable scorer that wins the guard battle most often than not, is involved defensively, and is a natural scorer. Hemphill had some big scores this season where he exploded for bigs games, and his teammates knew to get him the ball when he was on. Hemphill can hit the 3-ball, make the outlet pass, and run the offense. He is a leader on the floor, and this floor general is poised for another big season.
Seth Sherwood – Pueblo County
Sherwood is a multi-sport athlete that plays with joy and has a great understanding of the game. Sherwood knows where to be on the court and how to put the ball in the basket. He finished up the season on a streak, scoring over 15 points for the last three games, and does all of the small things asked of him. Sherwood is a solid rebounder from the guard position and can step out on the wing as well. He put up 10.9 points and 5.3 boards a game and also dished it out and set up teammates for easy scoring opportunities. He is one of the most important players for Pueblo County this season, and they will need him to be good if they want to turn things around.
Ray Aragon Ray Aragon 5'9" | CG Pueblo South | 2023 State CO – Pueblo South
Pueblo South had a rough season and will look to get back on the right foot this season as they are now a year older and wiser. The youth was their biggest issue as their top players were underclassmen. One of those standouts is guard Ray Aragon Ray Aragon 5'9" | CG Pueblo South | 2023 State CO , and he is a player that jumped onto our rankings list after putting up 12.1 points a game in his first year and also was one of the creative and unselfish players in the conference as he put up 3.1 assists a game. Aragon makes the right play, takes care of the ball, and is a guard that takes chances. He can score in bunches, goes hard and does not back down from defenders, and is a player that has plenty of building blocks that he will start from. This upcoming season I see him making a big jump and Pueblo South picking up more wins on the year.
Brenden Harding – Pueblo East
Harding is a player that was a role player in his junior season and will want to come into his final season and make his impact felt. Harding put himself in situations to score by working hard and finding gaps and turned defense to offense. Harding had random games where he came out can explode for points and others where it was dirty work, and he was tasked with filling in the gaps. He put up 5.9 points and 3.8 rebounds a game and also is a playmaker that does not have to score to impact the game. He is a player to watch.
