The Expo Top 250 Showcase displayed some of the talent in the state. A lot of players showed up to get evaluated as well and be seen on the live stream from college coaches. Here are my takes from the Top 250. I will be dropping my takes in a couple of articles. Lets take a look at some of the point guards that caught my eye.
Blake Reed Blake Reed 5'10" | PG Mason County | 2024 KY – 2024- Bracken County- Blake is a full blooded pit bull on the court. One of the best point guards in the state. In my opinion he is the best in the class of 2024. Reed is a true competitor. He doesn’t back down at all to anyone. His handles are on a string. He can finish over bigger defenders. He can make shots from deep and his midrange game is nice. His decision making off ball screens as a freshman are at a high level. Coaches should definitely get on him early.
Mason May- 2023- Marion County- Mason is a strong point guard who can get to the basket. After seeing Mason back in June, you can see improvement in his shot. It looks a lot more fluent. In a class with some good point guards, look for Mason’s stock to rise with the addition of James Jewell James Jewell 6'6" | PF Marion County | 2022 State KY to his high school team. He will be able to get a lot more assists and show the other aspects of his game instead of his ability to score.
Nick Spalding Nick Spalding 6'0" | PG Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2023 State KY – 2023- Dunbar- Nick was probably one of the quickest from end to end with the basketballs at camp. He is a very good point guard. Plays with composure. He doesn’t seem to get rattled at all. He has great court vision. Nick defends well. He is very unselfish and gets his teammates involved. He can score the ball with the best of them also. I look forward to seeing where his recruiting will take him.
Jaquias Franklin- 2021- Elizabethtown- Jaquias is a bucket. He flat out filled it up in every game. He is quick with the basketball and has good handles. Franklin has a silky smooth jumper from mid range to beyond the arc. He seems to have a high IQ. He gets to his spots on the court against any defender. He is a athletic as well. Definitely a mid major point guard.
Corey Brown– 2022- Fort Knox- Corey competed in every game. What I liked most about him was his ability to guard. Coaches love point guard who can set the tone on the defensive end. He has good handles and vision. He finishes well around the basket. He has a nice looking shot. I would love to see him use the floater more. He is a player to keep an eye on.
