Majors Watch: South Florida Part Two
It has been a great few weeks for South Florida basketball. Players from across the region have picked up major scholarship offers from schools around the country. The hard work and commitment these athletes have put into their craft deserves immense praise.
Additionally, many of the area’s next biggest stars have been gaining steam on their individual recruitment’s. In this next piece, I would like to highlight some of the players receiving an uptick in communication.
Kamren Ramsarran Kamren Ramsarran 6'1" | CG Westminster | 2022 State FL – Coral Springs
2022 Kamren Ramsarran Kamren Ramsarran 6'1" | CG Westminster | 2022 State FL established himself as one of the top back-court players in Broward County last season. The 6-foot-1 combo guard averaged 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals for Coral Springs. Additionally, Ramsarran has adequate shooting marks of 40% shooting from the field, 35% from the 3-point line and 75% from the free-throw stripe. Any uptick in those numbers will make him a more well-rounded player. A member of Team Knight, Ramsarran is a terrific student with a 4.3 GPA.
Recent Interest: FAU and Mercer.
Jessiah Pierre Johnson – University School
A transfer from Dade Christian, 2023 Jessiah Pierre Johnson was a huge pickup for University School and head coach Ron Oliver. JPJ has good lateral movement off the fast-break and plays through contact when attacking the rim. Additionally, I think you will see his vision on full display in the open floor for the Sharks. Given that he is a 6-foot-3 point guard, Johnson will be a difficult match-up for players at his position. In 12 months from now, I expect a ton of D-1 offers for him.
Recent Offers: McNeese State
Faheim Meran Faheim Meran 6'5" | SF West Oaks | 2022 State FL – Miramar
2022 Faheim Meran Faheim Meran 6'5" | SF West Oaks | 2022 State FL accompanied the Patriots to a 24-6 record and a 7A state championship last season. The 6-foot-5 point guard averaged 9.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals for the Patriots. With the loss of 2020 Citadel bound Brent Davis Brent Davis 6'1" | CG Miramar | 2020 State FL , Meran should see his role increase along with talented D-1 prospect Deshawn Jean–Charles. The rising junior can defend multiple positions and has great hands on defense. Additionally, his length makes him a strong rebounder. Against Boyd Anderson in January, Meran grabbed a season-high 16 boards.
Logan Lord – Calvary Christian
While currently not receiving the same college interest as other players on this list, 2021 Logan Lord is a gamble I am willing to invest in. A transfer from St. Thomas Aquinas, the near 7-footer should maximize his potential under head coach Cilk McSweeney. A former D-1 player at Penn State, McSweeney will work Lord alongside 2022 Greg Glenn and 2022 Taylor Hendricks Taylor Hendricks 6'9" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #124 Nation FL . Moreover, Lord should throw his body around in control with any added size. Therefore, if Lord puts the work in at the practice, I think you will gradually see his footwork and shot efficiency improve under the tutelage of McSweeney and the staff at Calvary.
