Frederick
Frederick has only lost one game so far this year. They are being led by a junior duo, Joe Cartelli and Izayah Elize, very talented players who have been leading this team to victory. Joe is averaging 8.8 points per game and Izayah is averaging 7.8 points per game; I would not be surprised if their production steps up soon. They have their first big challenge of the season coming up when they play Holy Family; they also play Weld Central, Skyline, and Windsor, who are three good teams. This week will prove whether or not this team can potentially break into the top 10 in the near future.
The Classical Academy
The Classical Academy seems to always be a forgotten team from Colorado Springs. They have one of the most underrated players in the state in Micah Lamberth who is a 6’4 point guard. So far this year he is averaging 14.7 points per game. He has a smooth game and can get open for easy jumpers which shows how he is shooting 48% from the field. This teams only two losses have come against Sand Creek and Pueblo West, two good teams. The Classical Academy has a decent match up this week when they play Canon City, it will be interesting to see how this team plays throughout the year.
Longmont
Longmont is coming off of an undefeated season until the state championship, which they lost a close game to Lewis-Palmer. This year they have not been the same dominant force but are still one of the top teams in 4A. They are being led by 6’4 senior Dallas Dye who is putting up 14.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. They also have an underrated big man in Eddie Kurjak who is 6’8 and a good athlete. He is averaging 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, Eddie is someone who plays good defense and can make some exhilarating dunks. They have a big game next week when they play Centaurus, this is definitely a game to watch if you live up North!
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson has 4 losses but are still a team that can make a good run in 4A. They have one of the best pure scorers in the state in Darius Hornbuckle who is averaging 17.8 points per game. Darius is a lengthy player who can shoot from the outside and has a soft touch which allows him to hit some floaters from mid range. This team is a deep team who has a lot of players who could go off any night. They have some good games coming up this week when they play Ponderosa and Dakota Ridge; these are some challenging match ups for this team, it will be interesting to see how they fare after this week.
