Prep Hoops Colorado has done our best to get out to as many games as we can and have seen plenty of these players this season. We have already discussed some of the top scorers before the break and also assisters but now we focus on some of the top bigs who have been able to affect the game with their work on the boards. Alex Brown, Heritage Christian – 13.7 rebounds a game
Heritage Christian is at 4-1 on the season and it has been a great start for them because everyone seems to understand what their role is and excel in their role. While there are scorers and shooters they also have a senior big man that understands that he has to take over down on the block, protect the paint and also grab every board that comes his way. At 13.7 rebounds a game it appears as if he is doing the best that he can and the team is winning as a result.
Jaziah Sandoval, John Mall – 12.3 rebounds a game
John Mall has had issues trying to get anyone else step up as Sandoval has had to do it all for the Panthers. He is averaging a double-double on the season at 16.7 points a game but he is also having to exert so much energy on the boards as well. He is a player the opposing team is double-teaming and trying to keep off of the ball but he is managing to find ways rather that is creating for his own or going and grabbing the board and taking it on his own.
Austyn Vig, Plateau Valley – 12 rebounds a game
Vig is a player that is ready to do everything in his power if it means getting a win and that is what you want in a player. He is the team’s leading scorer at 15.3 points a game but he is also a player that is battling on every possession to attempt to give his team an edge. The 6’1 forward is at 12 rebounds a game and is a player that has continued to see his role grow every game with his confidence growing with it.
Johnathan Mobbley, Fowler – 11.8 rebounds a game
Fowler is a deep team that looks as if they can really make some noise in 2A this year. They have a few good scorers, they have solid guard play and players who know the importance of possessions. There are multiple players who take pride in crashing the boards on this team but none like 6’5 senior standout Johnathan Mobbley. Mobbley is the team’s inside force that they can dump it into and he can score and also they feel good about when a shot goes up and he is going to go after it. His 11.8 rebounds a game is fourth in all of 2A and has him as a player to watch moving forward.
